The 8 Commandments

The 8 Commandments

The roads of the UK are a mess. Anyone that spends a modicum of time travelling will surely agree.

I regularly inhabit the gruesome M1 / A1 North and South and in my opinion, whoever signed off the sheer amount of roadworks that currently break up the journey is the devil incarnate. Oh, how I wish I had invested in traffic cones instead of gold… I’d be a far wealthier man!

That said, it still beggars belief that in 2017 there are still a seemingly high population of people that simply do not know how to use the UK road network. Now, the following is written “tongue in cheek” and I would be the first to admit that I am not the perfect motorist. However if everyone followed the basic rules and had a better understanding then everyone would contribute to keeping the roads flowing faster and less dangerously. Here are my “8 Commandments” (I didn’t have time to think of 10) for driving on UK roads:

  1. Thou shalt not covet the middle lane
  2. Thine is the right to use the outside lane, but not at 68mph!
  3. If thy vehicle is an HGV, uphill is not the place to overtake
  4. When entering a roundabout in the right hand lane, thou shalt exit in the right hand lane
  5. When the motorway traffic is doing 70mph, an acceptable speed on the slip road is not 40mph
  6. Do NOT be offended by hand gestures, they simply mean you have been an idiot
  7. The user of the mobile phone at the wheel shall be dealt a path straight to hell
  8. Do not be tempted to believe in the term “smart motorway”, for belief is to be branded a fool

I am not a religious man, but this is my preaching. Stay safe everyone.

Haha love it mate. How about letting your intentions be known as to when your leaving a roundabout by using those flashing orange thingys (properly)?
