8 business questions for the business leader
Aristotle said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom”.?
After spending a weekend at DePaul University under the tutelage of Robert S. Rubin , I realized what I thought to be true versus what is true, based on evidence, are two different things.?
Dr. Rubin asked the following set of questions during a presentation on organizational behavior and leadership.? Regrettably, I felt like I was living through an episode of myth busters, and disappointedly admit, I would have passed this test only with a generous curve.?
Feel free to answer the following True/False questions and see how you do.?
·?????? On average, leaders are more intelligent than their followers (T/F).
·?????? Personality differences account for a majority of conflict between people.? (T/F)
·?????? On average, managers are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs than non-managerial employees (T/F).
·?????? The best work groups have very little conflict (T/F).
·?????? Those who are “emotional” make better decisions (T/F).
·?????? The best individual performers will create the highest performing team (T/F).
·?????? Most individuals do their best work under conditions of high stress (T/F).
·?????? On average, money is the best motivator (T/F).
Admittedly, there is some context surrounding these questions, but nevertheless, these questions are thought provoking as a business leader.
Please feel free to take the test, debate your thoughts, and I will report back on the answers as provided to me by Dr. Rubin.

4 个月I feel like everything is false except the second one that deals with personality differences being the source of conflict. That one really runs true for me. Especially this quarter.

5 个月Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. Below are the answers. 1) T - ON AVERAGE, people who ascend to leadership positions are more intelligent as measured by intelligence tests. However, intelligence doesn't speak to the person's ability to perform their job at a high level. 2) F - competing for resources accounts for the majority of conflict. 3) T - managers typically have higher levels of autonomy which leads to increased job satisfaction. 4) T - This question has a little word smithing. When disagreements rise to the level of conflict in work groups it is detrimental to effectiveness. 5) T - All decisions have some "emotion", but when the emotions get so elevated they cloud judgment that emotion would then become detrimental. 6) F - Anyone who has played team sports knows individuals do not make teams. 7) T/F - trick question. Stress can increase productivity to a point and for short durations, however if that stress becomes overwhelming then productivity decreases, and burnout ensues. 8) T - Once again, ON AVERAGE is key, as we can all think of individual situations that are an exception. Thanks for contributing to the conversation!

5 个月1. Yes, leaders are more intelligence than followers becuase they area able to take charge and gather information and share that between people. 2. Yes, because when people have different views it can cause disagreements, nowadays people tend not to take in other peoples opinions which can cause arguments and can make tasks take longer. 3. No, I think that due to the larger work load of managing and leading the non-managerial employees causes more stress for the managers. As to where the non-managerial employees dont have to worry about managing other co-workers and can focus on their end of the job. 4. No, if everyone has the same view on a topic or idea its hard for them to add on and grow that thing. If people have different views and it sparks arguments it can help the idea or topic grow. 5. No, if your emotionable about a set thing you wouldnt be subject to change or add to your descision. Or see other peoples sides. 6. No, it takes alot of different styles of problem solving and viewing the task due to have a strong team than one person that works best alone they dont get that outside view. 7. Yes, it gives them a reason to work harder and do thier best to finish their work. 8. Yes, peoples drive is money.
