8 on the 8th: Slow Productivity and Making Quantum Leaps

?

Welcome to this extra special June edition of 8 on the 8th, where I share eight things designed to help you think, reflect, and grow based on my own self-leadership journey.?

Why is this month’s letter extra special? Three reasons ??

1) June is my favorite month. (Psst...it’s my birthday month! On the 8th, actually. Hence, why it’s my favorite number!)?

2) The halfway point in the year is a wonderful time to assess and recommit to yourself.??

3) Summer typically brings about a slower pace, which you can use to get hyper-focused on the people and things that are most important to you.??

?

SRS??

?

And with that, let’s dive in:?

?

WORD I AM FOCUSED ON—?

Quantum Leap (noun): a huge, often sudden, increase or advance in something.? ? This month, I'm focused on making quantum leaps in all that I do.?

?

WHAT I AM PONDERING—?

My version of Slow Productivity?

  • Do fewer things.?
  • Say no more.?
  • Work at a natural pace.?
  • Obsess over quality.?

?

WHAT I AM LOVING—?

?Impromptu phone conversations with friends.??

I have had a few impromptu phone conversations with friends that had no particular agenda that led to interesting insights and new discoveries.??

For example, I received an impromptu call from my friend Kendrick McCleskey, and we explored topics ranging from investments to community engagement. and ended our chat with him recommending a book to me, The Miracle Morning: Updated and Expanded Edition.??

Kendrick sent me the book and I read it and came away with more commitment to mastering my a.m. and p.m. Our conversation reminded me of the importance of doing less so I have space in my life for the unexpected and extremely rewarding things like impromptu chats (and adventures) with friends.??

?

WHERE I AM SPEAKING—?

Turns out I am speaking less this month but writing more. Keep an eye out for my latest Forbes article later this month. You will be able to find it here.?

?

WHAT I AM READING—?

?The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet by Jeff Goodell?

★ Exploration of how our world is being reshaped by extreme heat and what it means for our future survival.?

The Davenports by Krystal Marquis?

★ The glamorous yet turbulent lives of a wealthy African-American family in early 20th century Chicago, where love, ambition, and societal expectations collide.?

Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver?

?★ The lives of three characters in a lush Appalachian setting, revealing the profound connections between humans and the natural world in a season of rebirth and transformation.?

?WHO I AM QUOTING—?

Helen Keller ??

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.??

Seth Adam Smith ??

For each of us, there comes a time when we must awaken and become what we were born to become.?

?

WHAT I AM RECOMMENDING—?

That we all take advantage of the slower pace of the summer. And use it to get focused so you can finish the year stronger.??

?

WHAT I AM SUGGESTING YOU REFLECT ON—?

Ask yourself: Consider the impact of you becoming the best version of yourself will have on others? (From the Miracle Morning).?

?

★ Final thought—?

Here's to making it happen today and every day this month!??

?

P.S. The newest version of my official website shavonnahrobertsschreiber.com is live and ready. I’m inviting you to check it out and let me know if you run into any issues and/or can spy my love letter to Houston. Thank you!?

Natural pace, made me chuckle because your natural pace is still a very high RPM. Keep sharing and happy bday.
