I came across this strange number today at 1:17 am and discovered the essence of a healthy work life balance hidden inside it.
One of the major matters of concern in today’s world for every person belonging to any geography or industry is to achieve a healthy work life balance. People strive hard by figuring out every possible option to achieve a happy balanced life capable enough to cater their needs of both professional & personal life. But, the hard fact is that majority of people no matter at whatever levels they are engaged in their professional life feel hard to achieve this goal.
Currently a person on an average spends 12 hours at office or in commuting. The balance 12 hours left is utilized for either sleeping (8 hours) or to cater daily personal requirements. Even, there are many instances where people can be found working from home post office hours to attend important work activities & the time spent on it gets deducted from either their sleep or personal activities. As a consequence, after spending a hectic day at office, there is no time left to invest into personal or social activities of life. Further, due to time deficiency people find it difficult to revitalize their body for the next day exercise. This leads to numerous health problems & deteriorated performance.
The 8-8-8 rule is an effective resolution to the above problem. Even, if it couldn’t solve the problem completely, the results would considerably be positive. Ideally, a person should spend 8 hours at work, 8 hours for sleep & balance 8 hours for his personal & social activities. This kind of a balanced schedule will help a person to set priorities in life effectively & reduce stress thereby leading to a healthy work life balance. The person would find himself leading an organized & a structured life, thereby getting time to focus on priorities effectively.
The organizations should come forward & take initiative in reorganizing their work structure considering their employee well-being as they being their most critical assets for doing business. Every human body has an expiry date & it is our practices which would decide how early or lately we would exhaust it.
