If A 78 Year Old Can Find His Next Job Quickly, Why Is Your Job Search Still Slow?

If A 78 Year Old Can Find His Next Job Quickly, Why Is Your Job Search Still Slow?

I think age 40, 50, and 60+ job seekers who are struggling with ageism, would find it uplifting to read about how I helped a 78 year old find his next job quickly.

Bill was an ex-executive who was now trying to find a project manager position. He was getting interviews, but wasn't finding the right job.

His resume was one reason why. It was disorganized and too long, so it didn't tell a concise, clear story about how he could help an individual hiring manager meet their goals and solve their priority problems. Even worse, his resume made employers guess if he was a success or failure.

You might be having similar problems, if you aren't getting interviews when you're qualified, not advancing in the hiring process, not getting the offer when a finalist, or if you're losing jobs to less experienced candidates ... candidates you could run circles around.

We consolidated Bill's 6-page resume into a tight, 2-page story where every line of his resume proved his success, focused on the impact he provided (rather than his experience), and was set up to be customized to fit an individual hiring manager's needs. While rewriting his resume, we also rewrote "the story in his head", to make his interviews much more effective.

We found the little gems of information, buried deep in the depths of Bill's memory, that helped Bill make age his superpower and the very reason that employers wanted to hire him.

I taught him how to re-invigorate a network that had aged-out, using much more effective sources than LinkedIn. We rebuilt his network with hiring managers and information sources who had the authority, influence and knowledge to help him, rather than recruiters who would only block him.

And I showed him how to avoid applying online, avoid recruiters and HR, instead concentrating his efforts on people who make hiring decisions, breaking through noise and roadblocks to communicate directly with hiring managers.

Bill had great results, the first time I helped him, when he was 76, finding his next job in 6 weeks after we finished his resume. And the second time I supported Bill's job search, when he was 78, he found his next job even faster - a month after we updated his resume. Both times he contacted the hiring manager directly, bypassing recruiters and HR.

But why listen to me, when Bill tells the story of finding jobs when he was 76 and 78 so well? Here's what Bill had to say (copied from the recommendation section of my LinkedIn profile):

This is a typical story of how I help age 40, 50 and 60+ job seekers change job search results, by changing resume, interview and job search strategies.

So why am I sharing this with you?

Because if you're in your 40s, 50s and 60s and struggling with your job search, it's time to ask yourself why. If the answer you think of is ageism ... think again, because job search ageism can be beaten, and can be overcome quickly.

Isn't it really because changing your job search results requires change to your strategy?

Change can be scary, while inertia feels comfortable, so most age 40+ job seekers keep on doing what isn't working and wonder why you aren't getting hired.

The good news is, this is something you can control. You can learn how to make age your superpower, rather than something you try to hide.

Instead, let me show you how to prove overwhelming success to hiring managers, to make you show you're too good to ignore, make your age irrelevant, and present yourself as a steal compared to the performance you can deliver ... during my next free Resume Webinar – Beating Job Search Ageism.
