Beth O’Neill PCC worked with me in my Business of Coaching programme earlier this year and has made huge progress. It's been a joy to see, not only on a business level but also in how she's truly embodying her new-found CEO status.
Read about Beth's experience to learn how you can step into success in your coaching business.
Welcome, Beth, please share a little about you and what you do.
I'm an ICF PCC leadership coach, and I work with mostly leaders and managers training them in how to adopt core coaching competencies to how they lead. I also work with larger organisations and teams, with a focus on women in leadership.
I live in London with my husband and two year old son and I'm passionate about helping people develop as coaches in all areas of their life and leadership.
Where were you at when you joined my Business of Coaching programme?
I'd been running my business for about three months and, prior to that, I had been working for an amazing coaching company for four years. I had my PCC qualification and CME accreditation and was set up to thrive in business but knew that, as a start up, there were many areas I wasn't sure of like pricing, marketing, how to structure modules and programmes and so on.
I was really confident on the coaching side, which I loved, but I needed help on the business side.
What was the impact of that lack of confidence on the business side?
It was holding me back from knowing what my core message was and who my target audience was. I didn't have a marketing plan, I was just using my natural strengths, like networking.
I've always loved networking but I didn't have the online presence and the other core areas to give me full confidence to really go out there and start promoting my business.
What was most helpful for you from the Business of Coaching programme?
I loved coming to the weekly sessions and it being a different topic every week. I really enjoyed having the external, inspiring speakers to help me in various areas, exploring topics like blogs, websites and SEO.
I also loved the community space of the group and learning from each other. I regularly meet up with people I met on the programme and we've created a strategy group to help each other get clarity on our strategy and our message. Having that accountability and support from people on a similar journey has been amazing.
And I really appreciated having you as a business mentor. Thinking back to those early stages when I was really struggling with pricing and proposals, having you to bounce things off and review things for me was such a special time. You gave me specific help and comfort and confidence.
Since I started working with you, I've been quite busy delivering, so I haven't quite finished all the programme content, but all the stuff I've already done has been great, like the magnetic message, setting up an email list, being visible on LinkedIn. And I'm excited to get to your lead generation content and everything else you cover. It's great to be able to access the programme content ongoing.
What's changed in your life and your business in the time you've spent in the Business of Coaching programme?
So much has happened. I had a lot of core tools, topics and themes I'd learned before, but having the space to develop my own programme and think about the journey you take people on from a marketing perspective, building a relationship over time and having a nurture sequence, has all been really helpful.
Also, gaining confidence with pricing and not undervaluing myself and my offer has made a big difference.
I'm a lot more visible on LinkedIn now, and much more consistent with regular posting. I'd like to build that further and do more podcasts too.
Tell us more about how your business has grown.
When we started working together, I had one corporate client who I'd been working with for about six months, which was fantastic, and I'm still working with them now, training several of their management teams, running their Company Day and delivering a full company coaching culture programme.

And I've taken on another five corporate clients who are at different stages of coaching culture programmes that I tailor to suit them, so I've got an incredible client roster on the corporate side.
Also, from April to July this year I ran my first Women in Leadership programme. I really appreciated your support in getting that off the ground.
How would you describe your experience of working with me?
You're such a natural, passionate, authentic and open person. I love how you facilitate the sessions and connect with each of us and give us that personalised approach. It's been like having my personal business coach and mentor. I've really appreciated your support, and how you designed your programme with so much thoughtfulness, and all its amazing elements and the people that you bring along.
What was your biggest takeaway from the Business of Coaching programme?
It would be around visibility and showing up, whether that's on social media or with your clients. I'm really big into confidence and executive presence, which is one of my core topics in my Women in Leadership programme, and it's really helped me to think about my own executive presence.
Tying that in to my marketing has been fantastic. And, with showing up, it's made me feel freer to try things and take risks and see how things land. Before, I was more nervous about making a mistake or saying something wrong.
What are your future plans for your business?
My next Women in Leadership programme starts in September, and I want to keep growing that so there's always one running, online and in person. And I'm developing the coaching culture programme even more and can't wait to have finished the full five journeys of the programme, and making both these programmes better and more impactful all the time.
Every two months I run a women's breakfast workshop, where I facilitate a workshop around a core topic from Women in Leadership. I'm excited to grow that community and invite the women who have taken part in my programme to help facilitate it so they can practice and develop their skills.
Would you recommend the Business of Coaching programme? And, if so, who to?
I would recommend the programme to any coach who wants to develop their online presence and develop their core business, especially coaches that have just finished their initial coaching qualification and are looking at developing the next steps.
It's also great for coaches that feel lonely and want some support and confidence and to be part of a community. You get to ask questions and get the benefit of people's different experiences and perspectives.
Remind us of your offer, Beth, and how people can contact you.
I train people in core coaching competencies. If you're a coach, and especially if you're a female leader and you want to have more coach training and learn more about adopting coaching in your role, I would love you to get in touch about my Women in Leadership Programme, a 12-week programme for female leaders and coaches who want to develop their core coaching competencies. Or, if you work in an organisation and you want help building a coaching culture and having some in-house training, I would love to support you in that. You can reach me through my website or through LinkedIn.
What would your advice to new coaches be?
Something that's been helpful for me is thinking about my personal brand and my USP. We speak a lot about niching, which is so important in terms of marketing, but who are we as individuals?
What are our strengths? What gives us energy? What makes us unique. It's about thinking about that and then building that into your business because, when you are your authentic self and you're using your strengths and you're shining your light, you are much more attractive to people.
So, figure out what makes you you. Lean into that and learn how to use it and turn it into your personal brand and business. It will give you more confidence and more freedom.
Thank you for your time, Beth. I can't wait to see what you do next!
