765LT | Final calibration, laptime sign-off

765LT | Final calibration, laptime sign-off

Day: #8

Time: 7.00 am

The handling track turns green, Edward Sandstr?m goes out for the warmup lap and comes in for a systems check. Our dynamics validation prototype and he are ready... Here we go. I am visualizing every braking point, turn in and exit around the lap, almost feeling the gforce through my own body, just like as if I am sitting in the car calibrating. I can hear the engine screaming and the car getting closer. The clock is ticking but time seems to be slowing down... All the long days, sleepless nights, challenges and successes of the last 1.5 years are passing through my mind. From the very first virtual model and simulation to everything that followed to come to this stage... The car is accelerating out of the last corner with just the right amount of side slip, the platform stays flat and the rear wing gets retracted to its DRS position. It's beautiful. Ed crosses the finish line and continues pushing. I look at my screen. Utterly impressive! We were expecting to overachieve the original target, but it has now become a reality. The weight of the "longtail legacy" has been lifted from my shoulders, we did it! A moment I will never forget!

Leading the Vehicle Dynamic Attribute of the 765LT and at the same time developing all of its major systems (with the exception of ESP) has been very demanding, technically, mentally and physically. Delivering the car to production though, gave me a satisfaction and sense of pride that is impossible to express in words.

The embargo will be lifted in just a few hours and the first reviews from Silverstone will go public. A moment for the whole team to celebrate!

P.S: It's not only about the stopwatch. The absolute performance is just a fraction of the dynamic greatness of this car (I am obviously biased).
