75 years of TALKE: Next destination Arabia 1997 - 2005
Before our anniversary year draws to a close, let's take a look back at the years 1997 to 2005: At the turn of the millennium, the signs at TALKE point to growth. This is evident not only in the company's further increasing presence in Europe, for example in the construction and operation of a new logistics facility including elevated silos for LyondellBasell (then: Montell) in Moerdijk, the Netherlands. At the headquarters in Hürth, a new chemical logistics centre for hazardous substances, among other things, is built in 2001 in the Knapsack district.
TALKE expands to the Arabian Peninsula
The year 2002 marks a turning point for TALKE in many respects: At the beginning of the year, the euro replaces almost all national currencies in the EU. Alfred Talke, son of Armin Talke and grandson of the company founder, joins the company full time. Marga Talke, wife of Alfred Talke senior, dies. She was active in the company until the end.
One year later, a decisive step is taken that is today an essential part of TALKE's success story: with the venture partner Al-Jabr, we take on the first on-site logistics outsourcing on the Arabian Peninsula for the plastics manufacturer Tasnee in Saudi Arabia. In 2004, the Saudi Arabian Sisco Group joins our joint venture in the Kingdom to form S. A. TALKE.
Armin Talke receives the German Dangerous Goods Award
At the same time, we continue to invest in our home market. In Stade in northern Germany, we build another logistics centre for Dow Chemical. For BASF, we are planning, building and operating a new chemical logistics centre on their site in Schwarzheide. In 2004, Armin Talke is awarded the "German Dangerous Goods Prize" for his exemplary company organisation and the high level of training and further education of his employees. The winner of the local "Dangerous Goods Oscar" is chosen annually by an independent jury of leading representatives of associations, organisations and authorities relevant to dangerous goods.

Armin Talke continues to expand the company in the following years. Together with the Spanish logistics company Global, we found the joint venture Global-TALKE in 2005. Our Moerdijk location gets a container terminal. In Oman we take over the operation of a logistics facility for plastics and in the Saudi Arabian trading port of Al-Jubail we build our first logistics facility on the Arabian Peninsula. To bundle our social commitment, TALKE establishes a foundation called LIGHT - Live In Greater Hope for Tomorrow. Its purpose: to support and promote children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
