The 75% Solution: Finding Success with Imperfect Adherence

In today's rapidly changing business landscape, continuous learning is essential for professional success, especially for leaders. This year, I challenged myself to complete the same 18 leadership development courses we assign to our people managers. I wanted to better understand the programs and personally experience the value they offer.
Like many busy professionals, I wondered how I'd find the time. The key was intentional dedication. I transformed my weekly hour-long commute into focused learning time, taking notes to ensure I could apply what I learned in my work. Regular monthly progress checks kept me accountable. Of course there were many weeks or months that I could not achive the target that I had set for myself - completing 2 courses a month. What was the result? The entire learning path was completed in time!
This journey taught me more than textbook leadership concepts. It reinforced the importance of planning and commitment. There were times I fell behind, but staying roughly 70-75% on track ultimately led me to complete my goal.
The journey of professional and personal growth is never finished. Continuous learning is the key to staying ahead. But perhaps my greatest takeaway wasn't just about leadership; it was the power of planning and the rewards of imperfect persistence. If you dedicate yourself 70-75% to any goal, you can achieve it, regardless of the challenges that you face - whether it is that of time constraints or different roles you play in your personal or professional life. I'm excited to take this principle beyond work and into every facet of my life - especially those areas that Im looking to improve!
