As AI continues to become an intrinsic part of business, companies are racing to integrate it responsibly.
PwC’s 2024 US Responsible AI Survey reveals that 73% of US businesses are either using or planning to use AI and generative AI, with 58% having assessed AI risks. Yet, only 11% of respondents have fully implemented responsible AI practices, underscoring a significant gap in readiness. Leaders must focus on embedding responsible AI strategies not just as risk management, but as essential drivers for innovation, competitive differentiation, and long-term trust in AI systems.
A significant portion of businesses (46%) cite competitive differentiation as their primary objective in adopting Responsible AI, closely followed by risk management at 44%. However, the survey highlights that responsible AI isn’t just about mitigating risks; it's about unlocking value. But the challenge remains—most organizations still struggle with fully embedding these practices, indicating the need for a more robust and operationalized approach.
As regulations and societal expectations evolve, companies with mature responsible AI practices will likely be better positioned to meet these demands and capitalize on the growing AI landscape. The time to act is now.
