Transcript:
[00:00:14] Hey guys, Stephen Esketzis here from Marketing on the Move, and today I want to come and talk to you a little bit about dealing with the haters, dealing with the people that come to your door and start knocking you down, the absolute bastards that keep pushing you and say you're doing crap, you're doing this wrong, you're doing that wrong, hate what you're doing, close down shop, marking you as spam, the whole shebang, all those haters that come out there when you open up your business, when you're trying to do something good and come to your door and start hating on you. They're the guys I want to talk about today.
[00:00:48] So the reason I'm talking about this is two different things. Number one is I had I think probably my first real hater, like this guy was really a passionate hater and he sent me an email a little while ago so I'll talk to you about that. The second reason I want to talk to you about haters is -- and this is isn't directly about haters, but it's more about limiting beliefs. So I want to talk to you a little bit about how your limiting beliefs can affect you and affect others and I will get on to that in a second. But the first thing I want to talk to you about is this guy. So what happens in my email sequence, right? When someone goes to my website, they sign up, they join my list. Mind you, there's only a few ways to join my email list and that is by consuming my information. So they'll either sign up by building a funnel using my funnel builder, they will sign up on my homepage, they will get a content upgrade, whatever the method is, they will opt-in with a name and email and then they'll end up on my email list.
[00:01:47] So that's what happened with this one guy, he joined my list, I noticed he signed up through my funnel builder if you go to my website. So he actually built his whole funnel that I put together for him, went through my thing, joined my email list and I just sent him some emails as every marketer does, as every business owner should, sent him a bunch of emails. And there are also emails which are really targeted actually, so my list on like most, I didn't sell anything to anyone throughout the entire list. I don't think I've actually ever sold a product yet to my email list. So it's all value, like I think I sent him about six or seven emails and then if I find out that you're not opening my emails, I'll send you an email which is a reengagement email. Now, I'll tell you upfront it is a little bit like sassy, it causes a reaction because it's just a little bit on the pushy side, but not much. The email pretty much goes along the lines of, look, I noticed you haven't been opening my emails, if you haven't then you probably shouldn't be on my list. In which case though, if you open this one I'll make sure you get my future ones. It's kind of like if I gave you a birthday present and then I came back to your house a few months later and you left the present unwrapped and still sitting there, that's how I feel knowing that you're getting all this information and you're not opening it.
[00:03:01] So that's pretty much the essence of the email. And then this guy writes back and he just starts talking about how I should stop sending him emails and all this crap. He goes, I'm sure you're used to restraining orders against you, and all this other bullshit. And I just laughed at it. It's something which caused me to have a bit of a giggle. And then he marked my emails spam, so you know, a classic hater. There's a big unsubscribe button at the end of my emails, that's irrelevant. Some people obviously don't notice that.
[00:03:33] So anyway, I found out that this guy marked me as spam, got really angry, sent me a pretty abusive email and I just had a giggle. And it was funny, I'm like, man, this is my first real hater, the first guy that really like -- I'm trying to give value to the market, I'm trying to provide all this free stuff, but there's always going to be someone no matter how hard you try, even if you're doing it for free, they're still not going to like what you've got out there and there's always going to be haters. So now that just kind of woke me up. I'm like, man, no matter what I do, I could be helping people make money, I could be helping build trees, I could be helping make the environment a better place, whatever I do, there's always going to be someone hating on what I'm doing.
[00:04:17] And that kind of links to my second topic which is my limiting belief, and this is something that I've got that I'm working on and I'm slowly overcoming I think, but it's something which I'm still working on personally and that is really to start putting content out there and ignore what people think. So a lot of the content I put out, sometimes I'm a bit afraid of what people are going to think. I don't put all that content out as I'd like, especially around family and friends, people who I know that are going to be watching or reading my pieces of content on my Facebook feed or going through my Snapchat. I've got family and friends who aren't business owners who work a 9:00 to 5:00 job and I feel that sometimes what I say might offend them or something like that. And I get it, and that's kind of why I'm afraid to put out content because I feel like people are going to start judging me, people are going to start putting content out and they're going to be like, look at this douchebag, he's talking about money, he's talking about this. But at the end of the day, if I can just impact one person, like just one single person with that message, it would be all worth it. If I can make one person do something good, one person hit positively, then it's all been worth it.
[00:05:29] Sometimes, one person, all they need is to see that one video and that could literally change their lives, because I know that I've seen content out there from marketers and from business owners and from entrepreneurs which literally has changed my life. It's just crazy, because if they haven't put it there, I wouldn't be where I am today. So I commend them on finding the courage to put out the information. I commend them on doing that so that way I can be where I am today. And I just wondered that what if there's someone out there who I can impact positively and really take them to a whole new level with some of my content, some value which I could be giving them, but I'm just too afraid to give it to them because I'm afraid of what others are going to think of me. And that's kind of been a big wakeup call and this hater I guess really alerted me to that fact that I could be doing so much more, but I'm just afraid of what people are going to think. What I've got to remember is -- and hopefully you guys can learn from this experience too, is just that there's going to be haters everywhere no matter what you do. You could be trying to save the world, whatever big vision you have, whatever content you put out, there's always going to be haters no matter what you do. So start taking action and try, like put the haters out of your mind, don't worry about them. Let them do their thing, you do yours and forget what people are going to be doing with you, judging you, like throughout in your entire life people are going to be judging you. Whether you're at school, university, starting a business, whatever it is, you're going to get judgment.
[00:06:55] So it's just one lesson for today is just ignore the judgment, overcome, do what you want to do. You only got one life and you only get to live it once, so really take advantage of that and don't feel pressured by anyone else. Don't feel as if these people are controlling your life, because that's how I feel at the moment, not controlling my life, that's a bit extreme, but if I'm afraid to put out content to my audience and on my Snapchat or on my Facebook page just because I'm afraid what people are going to think, man, why am I living so engrained in other people's ideas and things like that? You just got to go out and do it. You got to break through that. So it's pretty crazy, I just think that you've got to really look at yourself in the mirror, think what do I want to do, how do I want to impact people and just go out there and do it regardless.
[00:07:41] So that's a tip for you guys today. That's how to handle the haters, is just do your thing and let the haters hate and with your limiting beliefs, you just go sit down and rethink your strategy. Think, if I could impact that one person, if that one person gets a positive impact, if that one person makes some money and buys their mom a house, you never know what one thing can lead to. It's just like the butterfly effect, if I help one person, how many people can they help? I think that's crazy, when I look at other people in the marketplace, other entrepreneurs and you wonder how many things, how many obstacles they overcame, how many people that said no to them and they said yes anyway and they just kept going and going and going, because their vision was so big that nobody could get it away from them. It's just ridiculous.
[00:08:26] So guys, take that from me, like even me and even I'm sure other people with bigger followings and bigger and bigger and bigger, everyone gets to this point where they're just scared to share stuff, they're scared to share their message. So my takeaway for today, is just do it anyway. Build that vision, be confident in yourself, don't let others control what you want to do in your life, whether that's your parents, whether that's society, whether that's your friends, just do it anyway. You only get one chance and it's crazy, one opportunity to do something great, just make the most of it. Live every single day like a fresh new day. We get 24 hours in each day, all of us, 24 hours. You can choose what you want to do with it. You can either share your message or feel scared and just keep it to yourself and not impact anyone and then wonder like, what if I did do this, what if? Don't have regrets. That's the biggest message I can probably give you is have a life without regrets. Don't feel like, oh the haters got to me that's why I didn't do this, that's why I didn't do this. Don't blame people. Just go impact, go do things and live without regrets.
[00:09:31] So hopefully today, that's a little bit of a motivation message, not really a marketing on the move, but a little bit of motivation on the move. I just got to the office. I'm going to wrap it up. But yeah, guys, live without regrets, don't worry about the haters and go do what you need to do because you're going to impact at least one person and it could literally change their life. So, that's how I see it, hopefully you guys see it as well. Have an awesome day, share your message and let me know if you are enjoying this podcast by the way, because I know that -- we should probably take the steps, I don't actually know how many people are listening to this. There might be one, there might be a hundred. So let me know if you are enjoying this podcast. I'd love a review on iTunes or something like that, I don't even know if I've got new reviews.
