70 Persons Killed, 71 Abducted: Nigeria's Weekly Security Report – January 1 - 7, 2024

Bandits and terrorists opened the year in a killing and abduction spree with documented deaths and abductions totaling 70 and 71 respectively. The number of deaths represents a 41.43% increase when compared to the previous week; while the abductions witnessed a triple increase across five states. The killings and abductions have been attributed to bandits, gunmen, and Boko Haram Terrorists. The killings occurred through eleven incidents across nine states. The states are geographically spread across north-west, north-east, north-central and south-east. The states where the killings occurred include Adamawa (1), Borno (12), Ebonyi (1), Kaduna (17), Katsina (18), Nasarawa (4), Taraba (1), Yobe (6), and Zamfara (10). The victims include traders, law enforcement officers, and bandits. The abductions however occurred in Abuja (10), Borno (1), Ebonyi (2), Imo (1), Kaduna (42), and Taraba (16).

Bandits Kill 2 Soldiers, 2 Policemen in Ambush In Zamfara Jan 6, 2024

Two soldiers and two policemen were killed by armed bandits while two others Sustained injuries during an ambush attack in Zamfara.

The troops were killed in an ambush laid by the gunmen last Saturday evening while on patrol around Danjibga axis in Tsafe Local government area.

TVC NEWS Gathered that some of the terrorists were also killed by the troops while several others escaped with possible gunshot wounds.

Gunmen Invade Abuja Estate, Abduct 10 Residents Jan 7, 2024

Ten persons were on Sunday night reported kidnapped by marauders, who invaded Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Eye witnesses claimed the kidnappers appeared like herdsmen to mask their identity when they attacked the estate after 7p.m.

Residents mobilized security operatives in collaboration with the estate security guards to comb the hills within the vicinity of the estate.

Gunmen kidnap another traditional ruler in Imo Jan 6, 2024

Gunmen on Saturday abducted the Traditional Ruler of Orodo Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo, Samuel Ohiri, in his residence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the heavily-armed four-member gang stormed the residence of the former Chairman of Imo Council of Traditional Rulers in a green-colour Toyota Highlander.

Confirming the abduction, the Police Spokesman in Imo, Henry Okoye, said the command had begun investigation into the matter.

Bandits kill 17; abduct over 42 in Kaduna villages Jan 5, 2024

No fewer than 42 locals were abducted and about 17 killed when bandits attacked Kunkurai, Dokan Karji and Angwan Sako communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Although the authorities were yet to react to the incidents, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State Chapter, Rev Joseph John Hayab, said on Friday that “this is the evil work of bandits despite the gain so far achieved but we will not be discouraged “

Terrorists attack traders’ convoy, kill eight in Katsina Jan 5, 2024

At least eight traders were killed while several others were injured when a group of terrorists attacked a convoy of vehicles conveying traders to a local market in Katsina State, north-west Nigeria.

The traders were going to Yantumaki weekly market in Danmusa Local Government Area when the terrorists opened fire on them Friday morning.

Eight of the traders died instantly while the wounded ones are receiving medical attention at a local hospital, the chairman of the drivers union in the area, Kabiru Dangaye, told PREMIUM TIMES.

Bandits Kill Village Head in Taraba Jan 5, 2024

Bandits have killed the Head of Wuro Musa village, Jauro Kabiru Gambo, in Yorro Local Government Area of Tarara State.

The deceased was abducted alongside 17 people including seven women when bandits stormed the village on Friday.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Taraba Police Command, SP Usman Abdullahi, confirmed the killing of the village head.

Suspected Boko Haram Insurgents Kill Pastor, Five Others In Yobe State Jan 5, 2024

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed Pastor Luka Levong of the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) in Kwari, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe state. The attackers also killed five others.?

Some residents who evacuated the corpses to the Specialist Hospital Geidam told Channels Television that the attackers invaded the community around 2: 00 am on Friday and shot the pastor and his church treasurer Maina Abdullahi.

According to them, the other victims were also killed in their separate houses one after the other before the arrival of the security men, while many houses including one church and vehicles were also set ablaze.

6 Killed, 1 Injured in Zamfara Community Jan 3, 2024

Terrorists have killed six people and injured one person in ‘Yartudu and Yardutsi areas of Nahuce town in Bungudu Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State,?North West?Nigeria on Wednesday, Jan 3.?

The incident, which took place at about 12:30 a.m., saw the assailants first invading Nahuce in two separate groups without a shot fired.

The Chairman of Bungudu LGA, Nura Umar confirmed the incident. “As authorities we are working tirelessly to investigate the incident, apprehend the perpetrators, and implement measures to enhance security in the area,” he said.

10 Terrorists Killed, Nine Victims Rescued In Katsina, Zamfara Jan 3, 2024

Ten terrorists have been killed with nine victims rescued in military operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.

The insurgents were neutralised by troops of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) on Wednesday.

This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation Hadarin Daji Ibrahim Yahaya.

One killed, two abducted as kidnappers storm Ebonyi community Jan 1, 2024

One person was killed on New Year day and two others were abducted when gunmen stormed Afikpo community in?Ebonyi State.

Residents told the Nation reporter that the incident occurred around 8pm along Ndibe Beach Road.

An eye witnesses, Mr Onya Idam, said the driver managed to escape with the bullet ridden car with his boss, Mr Alazu, who is believed to be the main target of the kidnap, though he sustained bullet wounds.
