Read time 4 minutes.
This is a startling statistic from Gallup , that 70% of employees are negatively affected by their managers.?
This means that the majority of our people are not getting the support they need to thrive in their jobs.
And we wonder why we have a crisis in recruitment and retention in the hospitality industry!
I was speaking to a high end restaurant group last week and the money they are spending on recruitment is astronomical and at the same time they are cutting their budget for their people development.
We will not be able to climb out of this difficult era until we focus on developing our leaders and their skills to lead.
Getting the right people, in the right places with the tools they need to do the job.
If you want to chat with me about how I help restaurant leaders develop and find new solutions to this, find a time?here?.
A bad manager can lead to decreased job satisfaction of all, lower productivity, and high turnover rates.
And you will lose future star players, as these talented people won’t stick around, if bad managers behaviours are excused by you.
As a team member, this can be a very discouraging, a demotivating experience and they will just find a job where they are appreciated.
Though with this data we can move towards solving the issue………
I am devoted to getting us through these tough times by transforming our leaders from surviving to thriving.

So, what can we do about this? The answer....??
The 3 Stages of Leadership - I have also given you a free tool to use below to start this process of discovery, keep reading.
??
STAGE 1 - Self-leadership
Becoming aware of how you see yourself and how other’s perceive you.??By analysing your mindset and communication skills and then learning self-management and relationship management.
This stage of leadership is an ongoing journey throughout your whole career and needs regular check-ins as life and circumstances change around you.
STAGE??2 - Impact Player's by Liz Wiseman
Teaching how?individual team members can take control of their own career growth and development. By seeking out mentors, building their own networks, and taking on new challenges. Team members can learn to influence, thrive even in challenging environments and?learn the behaviours of successful “impact players”.
“Change is inevitable but growth is optional.” “The Impact Players in our study see everyday challenges as opportunities. To Impact Players, unclear direction and changing priorities are chances to add value.” Liz Wiseman
STAGE 3 -?Other Leadership
Our initial idea of what leadership is, where we become responsible for others. The first question we need to ask our people is; do you enjoy being responsible for others???Do they even know yet? And then understanding what really engages teams and it isn’t micro-managing.
From supervisor level we need to invest in giving them the tools to see people’s strengths, to be able to manage uncomfortable conversations and not avoid them and teach them the importance of praise and appreciation.
Here is your free tool for you to use as an exercise with your managers and leaders, to analyse the elements of STAGE 1 – SELF LEADERSHIP
