70-Hour Work Week: Crazy or Genius?

70-Hour Work Week: Crazy or Genius?

  • Ever wondered if working 70 hours a week is the path to success or just a ticket to burnout? Let's dig deeper into this notion and uncover why it might be more brilliant than you initially thought. today Indians on average work for 47.7 hours per week.
  • The iconic entrepreneur Mr. Narayana Murthy recently dropped a thought-provoking nugget: "My request is that our youngsters must say, 'This is my country. I'd like to work 70 hours a week," And you know what? He's onto something. Youth is a phase brimming with boundless energy and enthusiasm. But the key is to channel that vigor effectively; otherwise, it could slip through your fingers or lead you astray. I vividly recall my early years at work and my initial 5-6 years as an entrepreneur, where I clocked over 100 hours per week consistently. It was not like I hadn't tasted any success until then. In fact, the business outperformed my expectations in the very first year

  • One common misconception is viewing your work as a one-way street in service of your employer. The truth is, every hour you invest in your career is an investment in yourself. While your company compensates you for part of the value you bring, remember that you're not just repaying them. You're gaining invaluable knowledge, experience, and skills. During my tenure at Aress Software and Shanti Instruments, I discovered my untapped potential when I could sit in one place (with a few fresh air breaks) for 15-18 hours in the office and felt zero stress after returning home.
  • Let's zoom out a bit we all know India is in the developing phase so let's look at some numbers of developing phases of a few countries

  • Consider this: some individuals shell out a small fortune on education in countries like the US, UK, or Ireland to acquire knowledge and expertise. Just so you know the average cost of education for a year in the USA is $36,436 roughly 30 lakhs INR per year. However, within a corporate environment, you have access to a treasure trove of learning opportunities without the hefty price tag. Instead, you get paid most of the time. Working those 70 hours a week isn't merely about a job; it's about constructing the cornerstone for a prosperous future.
  • So, the next time you question the wisdom of those marathon work weeks, remember, it's not solely about the company—it's about your personal growth, your sharpening skills, and your future. Embrace the chance to invest in yourself, and those 70-hour work weeks could very well be the genius move that unlocks your full potential. ??

I inspire from your entrepreneurial journey Piyush ji. When I interviewed you for The Weekend Leader publication, I was inspired throughout researching and writing about you. Why your story is inspiring because the kind of determination you had initially and even now. You still work long hours. You end you day at 11 and then wake up at 3-4 to start your day. I think these long hours don't result into burnout when you have purpose in your life. If you are working just for money then you are bound to get burnout. We need to understand that money is by-product, not the product itself.
