Do people go to sleep one night and wake up with a big bag of money that has gotten a bunch of leads overnight? That’s not exactly how it works, but it is possible if you are willing to work hard and be in an open, public place. If you want to know how to get clients for your business or service, understanding professional networking is important. In today’s newsletter, we cover the various factors for not getting clients, methods for getting clients, and why it’s essential for commercial success.
We all know that Marketing is telling people what you do, over and over. There are many ways of telling people—in person, in writing, through the media, on the internet, by phone—but you do have to tell them. You can’t just wait for the clients to turn up.
Many consultants, coaches, and other service providers who have their own businesses have found themselves asking "Why am I not getting clients?" You might have thought that you have done all the right things, networking events, following up with leads, perhaps even paid for advertising but you still aren't getting the clients you need.
#Google isn’t giving you the traffic you deserve. #Socialmedia doesn’t work for you. You have a #website and no one is visiting, calling or booking an appointment. Why aren’t you getting clients?
It’s just about doing the work, and not assuming people will discover you without your help. You need to tell them what you do, over and over again. If you know how to market yourself, then you already know that successful #marketing is repetition.
I have been working in the marketing field for over 10 years. When I started my business, I have always wondered why I’m not getting clients. When I started my coaching business again, this had been a thing of concern to me. I have worked with many small business owners and it seems their biggest struggle is converting leads into clients.
Tell me honestly, how often are you talking about your offer to your audience?
You are not getting clients because you are not telling them. But yes, there are other factors. My point here is to point out that most solopreneurs and small business owners feel shy and salesy and they do not ask for sales.
I have interviewed dozens of business owners, entrepreneurs and business experts to find the best marketing tips and strategies used by savvy small business professionals to attract more clients with little effort. And here are the suggestions given:
If you are #selling your services, project, or product, you have to be #confident. You are getting someone else to pay you money in return for a service. If they are not positive that you are going to be able to help them, then they are likely not going to make any sort of deal. If you are selling something, you are likely going to sell yourself first. If the client is not sold on why you might be able to help them, then you do not have any chance of connecting with them.
The truth is, if you are not confident about your service or product, then you are going to have difficulty executing the tasks at hand. You won't be able to make a potential client feel comfortable about purchasing from you.
People do business with people they know, like and trust. You need to let them know you’re there, what you do, and why you do it. Build #relationship, and #convert into clients. This is time-consuming. But you have to start from somewhere.

So how do you get the right #audience? Take targeted actions. If you know that your target audience is women 35-55, then where do they hang out online? Where do they congregate and where are their concerns expressed in conversation? Do you know where these people are? If not, it might be time for you to look into the different places on the Internet where people can come together.
Business owners are all doing some things right, but many of them aren’t doing all of the things they could be doing to get more clients. It is very important to know what works for your business, what are you comfortable with, what your audience prefers, what’s aligned with your #businesstone and #voice, and what you have a budget for.
You might be an #expert at what you do, but that alone doesn’t get clients to pay your fees. Your business doesn’t just come out of thin air. Building a client base takes some effort on your part. Your business needs a #leadgeneration and #clientconversion #system in place.
You probably knew the answers to this one, too. Yet the fact that you need a website and simple marketing material isn’t going to create itself. So, this week, give yourself permission to try something—anything—to #attract the clients you want. Even if it’s meeting two different people who can tell their friends about you, that’s how you get clients.
Marketing is communicating the #value of your business to the people who may want it. The way you communicate is critically important, even if you are only reaching out and talking to a few people. Marketing is the activity of getting other people to talk about your business. So often, people say they want to start marketing but don’t know how. What they really mean is that they don’t know how to get started — but there isn’t an answer to that question until you figure out what kind of marketing you would like to do and whom you want to talk to and what value you can offer them. If you don’t know any prospects or businesses that can refer clients, then I recommend starting #advertising with #Facebook ads or #LinkedIn ads… Look at all platforms for what their audience will be interested in knowing about you and communicate that message. There are different platforms used by different groups of consumers.
Creating a smooth #salesprocess – from the point where your prospects first hear about you to where they become clients – is crucial if you want to be successful. This is a five-step process I follow in order to move my leads along and convert them into signed contracts.
Creating a sales process is not just about writing things down. You will have to pitch your business effectively to prospects, and you need to know when it is the appropriate time to pitch them. You also need to be organized and leverage the tools that are available to keep track of the status of new clients, leads, and opportunities.
The #salesfunnel and process can be a touchy subject for some business owners. The last thing you want to be called is a sleazy salesman or pushy telemarketer, especially if your business model isn't based on selling products in the first place. This can be especially tricky for solopreneurs or small businesses that have limited resources. However, creating a sales process and understanding what your funnel looks like is critical when it comes to creating an effective marketing machine that supports growth.
You have the business, the knowledge, and probably even the product. It all seems to be in place and everything could be perfect up until the point where you try to get someone to pay for it. If your representatives or sales team are failing at closing deals then that is a real issue and it's something that you need to deal with. Proper #followup is very much essential to get conversions and new clients.
Hiring a #consultant or freelancer can be one of the best decisions you ever make for your business, and this is because you gain expertise from an outside source. While you may have an intractable grasp of the industry's history, current trends, and future potential, the person you hire has years of experience. Scads of work with many different clients will give them a unique insight into the industry that is impossible to gain through experience and research alone.
It might sound like stating the obvious, but it’s not enough to just be there. Saying and doing are different, and you have to be doing things in order to get clients. It’s fine to take a break from time to time—recharge your batteries, have a rest or have some fun—but don’t forget about work for too long or you may find yourself struggling.
If you've been interested in getting clients, you've probably also asked yourself why you aren't getting any. Or maybe you just aren't having much luck with it. That's why I wrote this article: to explain exactly why that might be. If you have any difficulty in getting leads or clients, then drop your queries to me either in the comments or in the dm.
