7 WAYS TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE AT HOME

WANT TO LIVE A SUSTAINABLE LIFE? ??

Whether for global pandemic reasons or otherwise, we spend a lot of time at home. The more sustainable you can make it, the more healthy your immediate environment is.

Implementing small shifts in your behavior, products, or consumption habits will ripple outwards to create a more significant positive impact on the planet.

???? Here are seven simple tips for a sustainable lifestyle.

1) Recycle What You Can?

Flattened boxes, wrapping paper, paper-only cards (no glitter or foil), paper gift bags (no handles or ribbon), and tissue paper can all be recycled.?

2) Dispose of Trees Properly?

Check your municipality’s guidelines for tree disposal. Generally, fake trees should go in the waste cart. Some plants, like poinsettias, can be composted without a pot.?

3) Organize Food Waste?

If you have an organics cart, compost leftover food. Place cooking oil in

a sealed container and take it to a household hazardous waste facility.

4) Reuse Materials?

Save non-recyclables like bubble wrap, ribbons, and bows for your next gifting event.?

5) Choose Simple?

When you’re shopping for wrapping supplies, choose non-laminated, glitter-free wrapping paper and gift bags. That ensures the person you gifted can recycle them.?

6) UnPlug /Disconnect Unused Electronics

According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, the cost of unused but plugged-in devices is around 19 billion dollars annually in the US and generates 44 million tons of carbon. Use power strips to make it easier to unplug several things at once, and make it a habit to leave something that you do not use every day unplugged.

7) SPEAK UP

Speak with people in your community or inner circle about why you’re passionate about nature and environmental justice. Join climate protests like?Fridays for the Future. Support groups or coalitions that lean on power in numbers to affect change or simply share your own positive actions with friends and family to spark their curiosity.

One of my friends laughed at me why I unplugged the unused electric devices regularly. She didn’t have any information about why it does matter in terms of following a #sustainablelifestyle.

Wow, thank you for educating our #linkedincommunity Marchello! I learned a couple of useful things from your article.

BONUS TIP: BE WATER-WISE Just .4% of the Earth’s water is freshwater, and far too much of that gets wasted every day. You can make a huge impact by?reducing your water usage, taking shorter showers, fixing any leaky pipes around the house, or even sticking something heavy into your toilet tank to reduce the amount that gets flushed down the drain.

BONUS TIP: MAKE YOUR OWN CLEANING PRODUCTS When it comes to green cleaning, white vinegar is about to become your best friend. With a little elbow grease, you’ll be able to tackle everything from your stinky garbage disposal to your mildewy shower and grease-splattered cooktop all without any exposure to toxic chemicals.
