Every content writer, brand strategist, and content marketer out there has been telling you the same thing over and over again:

"Be human"

"Humanize your brand"

"Let your content be from 'me/we're to 'you'..."

And so on.


But we both know these means the same thing.?

You'll also agree with me that generic content is one of the biggest sins of content marketing, and no audience would forgive you of this sin (i.e. it would neither convert nor attract your audience), yet generic content is very common.

Let me ask you this quick question:

If you encountered a boring corporate brand whose content has no personality, no value, no voice, no humanity, sounds robotic, and is littered with basic stock visuals, would you want to like their posts, follow them, click their links, or buy from them?

No, right?

Exactly why you have to humanize your brand.

Humanizing your brand is not another marketing strategy to increase conversion.

No!

Rather it is the foundation of building a strong brand and everything that comes with that like trust, retention, loyalty, community, and conversion.

The more authentic you are with your content and interactions, the better your brand will grow.?

But is it possible to humanize all brands?

Just like it is possible to 'humanize' anyone around you, it is possible to humanize your brand.?

All you have to do is to give your brand a personality and let everything you do with your brand be around that personality.


So how do you humanize your brand??

Simple, by telling strong stories in your content.

Content is pretty much anything you share online, whether it's in text, photo, graphic, or video format.

It might be something you share on your social media, your website, your blog, or your newsletter, and you have a lot of opportunities to humanize this content through storytelling, connecting with people on an emotional level, and cultivating a lasting relationship.

But everything you've been reading is probably things you've heard before, here's what makes this one different.

These (all of the above) didn't tell you exactly how to humanize your brand and that's what this article wants to share with you.


Here are 7 ways to humanize your brand with your content:


1. Talk to people, not at them.?

Stop talking all about your brand and start talking to your audience like you would to fellow humans.

Instead of talking to the 'Target Audience', talk to people, ask them about themselves, find out what they’re interested in, what they care about, etc.?

You can also create a poll or quiz asking their opinions about your new product or service.


2. Share your values.

Yes, you see this everywhere because it is important.?

A strong brand starts with a strong brand's core which includes your brand's purpose, vision, mission, and values.?

If you can communicate your brand's core principle well enough, people would always want to support you especially if your core principle is what they have, wished for, or working toward.


3. Create content that fills a need.?

People want to be around people that understand them and can help them.

If you can prove that your brand can help your audience over and over again, they would always come back for more, and every time they come back they trust you more and more.

You can start doing this by creating content that helps people solve a problem, or satisfy a desire.


4. Personalize where possible.

Like I said before people want to be with people who understand their challenges and can help them solve them.

Personalizing your content is an easy yet effective way to make your audience feel special and understood.?

All you have to do is study your target audience and tailor your brand messages to serve their specific needs.

You can also take this further by making sure any content you send out is from a specific person, it would also serve you more if you include the person's photo.

This is exactly why influencers and all successful creator use their photos and personal profile.



5. Be vulnerable.?

It is becoming harder for brands to gain trust and the only way to gain your audience's trust is to be...

Transparent and honest especially when it comes to your vulnerabilities, mistakes, failures, or technical errors.?

The more you open up with your audience about your situation, the more people can see you as human and, ultimately, respect you as one.

So if you made a mistake, apologize.?

If you failed to find out what you learned from your failure, create content to teach what you learned.

If it took you 10,001 tries to create the perfect product, show people the process.

This is not over-sharing.



6. Show off the humans behind your brand.?

There are a lot of people that make your brand what it is.

Showing your audience the people and the process that makes your brand as unique as it is would motivate people to engage with you more.?

You can do this by shining light on your people, jokes, events, celebrations, culture, process, or expertise, once in a while.


7. Bring people together

One of the best ways to attract your ideal audience is to create a community, especially for them.

This is because when you are with people with the same interests, values, or challenges, you give them a sense of belonging.

You can do this by hosting a virtual event, starting an online group, do a Live Q&A with an industry expert, among others.?
