7 Ways A Blog Grows Your Business

7 Ways A Blog Grows Your Business

It's hard for some people to imagine the return-on-investment for a Blog.

Truth is, the ROI is pretty big. (if you do it right)

The best part? Every blog post you write becomes a piece of content YOU OWN, for the LIFETIME of your business.

There's absolutely no better marketing investment than that.

1 Build Massive Trust

These days anybody can whip up a cheap website on WIX.

It’s pretty easy to do in a very basic way.

That's bad news for businesses.

Because everyone’s radar is on high alert all the time, watching out for 'cheap' or 'fake' looking companies and websites. We're all trying hard to avoid the scammers.

Every subtle thing your business communicates which doesn’t look professional and as human as possible, moves your buyer slightly towards distrust.

How do you get noticed for being human and being a legitimate business?

You have to do the hard things.

One of those hard things, and very human things is writing and publishing articles on your website every week. AKA the infamous b-l-o-g.

When people see you as the company churning out great blog posts, you automatically become the trusted expert in their sub concise mind.

How do you think that'll influence their buying decisions with you?

How’s that going to make your competition look?

It'll appear as though your competitors are playing with Legos and Tonka trucks in the sandbox while you're standing proud, taking care of business.

When your website has a boatload of well-written blogs, especially with recently posted writings, it will cause your visitor's "BS radar" to power down completely.

2 Likability Automation

Think about a few people you really enjoy being around.

Now think about everything you’ve heard them say over the course of your relationship.

Words matter, a lot.

Chances are you’ve heard them speak a few thousand words at the very least.

And I’ll bet the things they said and how they said it have a lot to do with that person's likability.

The fewer words you’re using on your website, the less of an opportunity you have to connect with your visitors on a human level and become likable.

If you don't have a well-managed blog, then you’re missing a huge opportunity to truly connect with your visitors.

3 Traffic Floods In

Every single page on your website gets scanned by search engines.

Each page gets indexed and is served as a search result to users who search for the terms you use on each of those pages.

Do you only have five pages and no blog?

You’re absolutely missing out on a huge chunk of traffic.

For the sake of not overestimating and going crazy here, let’s be super conservative and assume that one blog post will gain 10 new visitors per month.

Now the fun stuff: Let’s do some maths YAY!

Say you have zero blog posts on your website today.

That also means you have zero traffic, also known as very little traffic. Basically only people who are searching for your business only.

Let’s say you start blogging weekly for a few months and rack up a good set of about 20 blog posts.

Using our conservative numbers, 20 blog posts times 10 visitors each will get us 200 visitors per month.

Mind you, these are visitors searching for the exact thing you wrote about. Can anyone say “warm lead”?!

By month 4, you have 25 blog post. That’s 250 warm lead visitors per month.

By month six you have 35 blog posts. That’s 350 warm lead visitors per month.

It’s now month seven. You’re tired of writing now, and you’re struggling to figure out what to write about.

So, you decide to take the month off.

Guess what?

You’re still raking in 350 new warm leads per month because of the existing blogs on your site.

The more good blog posts you have, relevant to your industry, contributes directly to more traffic relevant to your business

4 People Do Share

When people find a gem of information on your website they’ll share it in a split-second.

Even grandma’s on Facebook these days, so I don’t think I need to explain why this is beneficial for your business.

More blogs equals more opportunities for people to share your content and promote your business without you paying a dime.

More blogs lead to sharing, and that puts you in front of more people. Free.

5 Repeat No More

After being in business for the first few years you’ll probably you end up answering the same questions over and over and over and over again.

If you’re anything like me you want to be very thorough in your response and give a quality answer that truly helps the person asking the question.

But, after the 10th time, answering can really start to feel like a chore.

Those topics are going to make a great posts for a blog because you already know it’s something people have on their mind.

The best part?

You can stop repeating the same thing over and over again! Yahoo!

Just give them some brief highlights and then the link to your blog post about that topic.

Tell them everything they need to know plus a bunch of extra information can all be found right in that post.

They'll visit page, get their questions answered, and probably discover a handful of other related blog topics on your website, answering some questions they didn’t even realize they had, all the while reading content from your site helps build trust.

However, depending on the situation you may want to still communicate the information to the person asking the question, and you won’t want to lose them by sending them to a blog post.

For example, a salesperson might be on the phone, close to closing a big deal. Being the single point of contact for all of the customer's answers will be super important in this situation.

But - here's where the blog post becomes a gem: the salesperson can use the blog post their own personal reference to pull up and review as they are delivering the information to the customer on the phone.

6 Backlinks Galore

A backlink is a link from another website on the Internet to your website.

Getting Quality backlinks is the Holy Grail of a good search optimization strategy.

Here’s how it works in a nutshell:

Google looks at the quantity and quality of sites that link to your website. The higher the quantity and the higher the quality, The more google shows your website in search results.

It’s just like human interaction.

Imagine asking a group of friends if they know someone to help with your landscaping.

Your shady Uncle who just got out of jail recommends person A for the job. Your old high school friend who still lives in his moms basement, also recommends person A for the job.

Your highly-respected mentor recommends person B for the job.

In this overly simplified example, you can translate what’s going here into search optimization by assuming each of these three people, by giving their recommendation, are providing backlinks.

Person A received two back links, from lower-trusted sources.

Person B received one backlink, but from a very high-quality source.

In a search for a landscape person, if everything was "internet", Google would serve up person B first, far above person A.

How does this relate to blog posts?

Because having lots of quality blog posts means you look like a trusted source. Trusted sources get referrals. Great blogs posts get referenced with backlinks.

The more content or blog posts you have on your website, the more opportunities you will have for other people to reference your website for information by putting a backlink on their website.

More great blog posts will earn you more backlinks and that gets you more traffic.

7 Content Goldmine

If you’re not posting to your company social media pages more than once a day, then you’re in a losing battle.

But, it’s hard to come up with what to post about every day.

It probably feels like you need a team working on the side just developing great content for social media.

Good news: you don’t need a whole team.

But you do need someone writing and publishing blogs to your website every week at the very least.

That’s because you can take a good blog post, and chop it up into bits of social bites - then feed them out to your social media platforms.

You can take six or seven key points to create some text posts for facebook. Then take 4 or 5 facts or quotes from the blog and create Instagram graphics from them.

If you struggled with coming up with content for social media it’s because you’re doing it backward:

Start with a big chunk of quality content as a blog, then chop it up from there to use the pieces on various social media channels.

Good point about how the content adds up. I hadn't blogged in awhile. Still, I had a potential client contact me last week from the East Coast. I asked how she found me. Answer: Google.
