Goodbye 9-to-5, hello 7-to-7

Hybrid work means fewer — but longer — days in the office than ever before. More employees are clocking in before 7 a.m. and leaving after 7 p.m. now than in 2019, Fortune reports , though they’re only in the office a few days per week. Water dispenser company Bevi noticed the trend after analyzing use of its in-office machines and speculated that workers might be coming in earlier or leaving later to avoid rush hour traffic. Goodbye, DEI. Hello, Inclusion

DEI is disappearing — at least, the term is. The once-common acronym for "diversity, equity and inclusion" is increasingly being replaced in corporate lingo, even if the initiatives themselves remain, The Washington Post reports . Starbucks is subbing in "talent" performance for "representation" goals in its executive bonus incentives; Molson Coors has stopped using "DEI" altogether. So why the change? Keep reading here . ?? This week's topic: Retirement shift?

Despite improvements in health and life expectancy, less than half of Americans plan to work full-time past age 62, according to new research from the Center for Microeconomic Data. The 9.5% decrease since the pandemic is observed across various demographic groups, with women experiencing a more pronounced drop off than men. The drivers for this post-pandemic shift in retirement expectations span from a preference for part-time jobs to rethinking the value of work to the “Financial Independence Retire Early ” (FIRE) movement.

Comment below: What long-term effects could this shift in retirement patterns have on the economy?

How can you avoid being too self-promotional when you're building your personal brand?

Here are some tips to guide you as you think about how to show up on any platform:

Prioritize adding value: Instead of keeping the focus on your achievements and pedigrees, use your platform to talk about experiences that can be translatable, whether they are educational or inspirational. Share insights, tips and real experiences that others can connect to and draw inspiration from.

Be transparent: Share genuine stories, experiences and perspectives — and not just your wins, either. Authenticity shines through when you're honest and transparent about your successes, failures and challenges.

Share the love: Balance self-promotion with promoting others in your industry or network who have helped you get to where you are today. Tell us about the specific industry leaders, colleagues or brands that have inspired you and the work you’ve accomplished, why they resonate with you and how you’ve learned from their stories.

Last week, tech giant Google unveiled the latest upgrade to its "AlphaFold" artificial intelligence software, which can predict the structure of biological proteins and molecules, including DNA, as well as how they interact with one another. The latter development, scientists hope, could rapidly advance how new drugs are designed to target diseases.?

Demis Hassabis , who leads Google's AI efforts as CEO of its DeepMind unit, summarized the technology's potential in his debut LinkedIn post .

Great points! I agree that this shift in retirement patterns could significantly impact the labor market. It will be interesting to see how businesses adapt to an older workforce with different work preferences. Additionally, there could be economic implications for social security and healthcare systems as more people retire earlier than previously expected. Looking forward to more insightful discussions on this topic!

In having known nurses, in the past, with non-9-to-5 work schedules - i.e., four, 10-hour shifts, and three, 12-hour shifts (not as common, of these two) - weren't too uncommon to hear, in job conversations. Has it reached other industries en masse (or accelerated its use), because of/due to the COVID period?
