Dear young graduate/entry-level professional,
Welcome to today's newsletter, one of its kind which focuses on educating young professionals looking for job opportunities/settling into new roles.
I came up with a list of seven points worth noting as you climb up the professional ladder.
Don’t settle too early
By settling I mean getting too comfortable in a given role. Your first job may be in sales or customer service. If that is not your dream job, do not rest until you find something that aligns with your interest.?
You can change jobs as they come. However, some hiring managers might debate about job-hopping as a bad thing.?Do you.
Learn as much as you can
This is the time to acquire as much knowledge as possible. Gather as much information as you can. Test the knowledge to determine how useful it will be for you.?
Learn from others. Pick valuable lessons. Don't stop learning.?
Make meaningful and lasting connections
These could be people you work with or people in other departments. I do not mean that you should be friends and share personal stories on how you are the most loved child in your family et al.
On this platform, you can send connection requests to people in and outside your specialty. Get to know the content that resonates with you and engage with it.?

Have a goal and work towards it
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Map an action plan to help you know how things will turn out for you in the coming future. Dream big, work towards attaining that dream. Have an accountability partner. Meet often and set targets.?
Find a mentor
Times have changed. Get someone whose journey resonates with your ambition. It doesn't have to be a one-on-one mentor. People are constantly busy and may not have too much time on their hands. How about following them on their socials and learning from the content they share? It is a good place to start.
Invest in yourself
Much emphasis should be given to this point. It is not in vain to invest in yourself. The same effort you give in leaving last impressions should be given to investing in oneself.?Your CV goes to boardrooms before you. What does it tell about you?
How do I invest in myself?
See, you can start by attending webinars, most of them have free access. On the other hand, some workshops and seminars on career fairs would help you gain an advantage in the corporate world. Not forgetting the online courses. Do the courses, if you fail, attempt again. An occupied mind is a brilliant mind. How about a LinkedIn profile revamp that will help boost your visibility to potential employers?
Ask for feedback
Feedback is always there. Only if you ask. How did I do in the project I recently submitted? How did I perform during the interview? What can I do to improve on skill X ?
Never stop asking. You will get answers. In turn, work on the areas that need improvement.
I’m rooting for you. You’re going places. Keep moving and never settle until it is time.?
See you in the next newsletter.?
