7 Tips to Prepare for a Job Hunt

1. Use the time to upskill

This period of uncertainty is showing how digital transformation and agility are important to business continuity - use your time to upskill with digital and technical skills to give your CV a boost. Also use the opportunity to train in to new areas to expand you career options more aligned to your purpose and potential.

2. Work on your personal brand

Think about how you want other people to perceive you. What message do you want to get across? How can you show the value you can add to any organisation you want to work for? What is your ultimate selling point (USP) or your competitive advantage?

3. Perfect your CV

Take the time to really evaluate your CV. Look online for strong templates or get professional help. Describe your most recent positions highlighting only key responsibilities and significant achievements (use quantitative measures of success) to showcase your skills and experience.

Match the keywords you use to key words in the job descriptions of any job you apply to. Remember to tailor your CV for each job.

4. Work on your digital presence

Build an all-star linked in profile. Showcase any projects you have worked on, add your portfolio or supporting media. Get engaged, and build your network. Make sure you have a professional photo.

Clean up all other social media - either lock it down to be fully private or remove anything that you don't wish to be seen.

Use the LinkedIn & Google job search functions. Find out who is hiring or the best recruitment agencies in your field and have a conversation.

Be prepared to cast a wider net, leverage your contacts, and be more open-minded about your options.
