As a creative designer, visibility is ABSOLUTELY important to me. Without visibility, you really have no presence, at all.
It would be very hypocritical of me to write a post, or a blog, or a comment about visibility if I am not visible on social media, especially with visual content. This is also the biggest reason why most of my posts are accompanied by an image that I have created.
One way of getting my work seen! Connect with me on LinkedIn to see at least one daily image as well as some examples on my “Featured” board.
Define Visibility
What is the definition of visibility? Visibility is the ability to be seen.
Why do you want to be visible?
If you describe something as visible, you are saying that you can see it.
Certain things are not visible to the naked eye but we're not talking about the naked eye here, we're talking about your visibility on social media.
Visible as an adjective means “obvious to the eye.”
Another way of describing something as visible would be: viewable, apparent, tangible, noticeable, evident, obvious, conspicuous, perceptible, observable, clear and prominent.
Let's look at prominent most specifically.
With social media; what does it mean to be prominent?
To be prominent means that you stand out.
In other words, you're conspicuous and you're particularly noticeable.
A lack of visibility is clearly not something that you would aim to achieve when you're advertising your product or your services on social media.
Visibility & social media
How do you become more visible on social media?
To be more visible on social media basically just means that you need to be more apparent & less concealed. You need to be perceptible and you need to be clear as day.
When I scroll through social media, I very seldom stop at a post that consists mainly of words. The reason for that is I'm a visual person.
Pictures draw my eye. I am 100% convinced that I am not the only person in the world whose eye is drawn by images.
And the more relevant the image is to me as a person, the more likely I am to stop, read the post and engage with the author of the post.
What is a post-relevant image?
A post-relevant image is an image or a picture that adds value to the copy that you have written that accompanies that image.
How do you become more visible?
1. become distinctive
How can you be more distinctive or unique?
All you have to do is to embrace your authentic self since there's no one else in the world that is just like you.
You have a message to give the world, don't be shy to be bold about it.
How you show up and how you are unique is not something that somebody else can give you direction on.
When you know how it is that you want to show up, I can give guidance, but the ultimate choice is still yours! Show us your PASSION!
2. take your reputation on tour
And if it means rocking it then you do just that!
Touring means taking a journey for pleasure in which you visit several places.
Where is it that you want to be visible the most? Or rather … where is it that your ideal client hangs out – THAT’s where you need to tour.
Since touring is a journey made by performers where they play to their audience, is it really that far-fetched to take your brand on tour to where your audience is?
Touring is an organized trip. So, perhaps your visual content should be organized as well?
As always, the offer is there for us to discuss and see how I can help you become consistently visible.
3. create disturbance
Wait ... what?
Why not create a disturbance?
When you create a disturbance, people stop & take notice. Ok, mostly they take out the mobile phones and start recording the disturbance to distribute on social media later.
But you get what I’m saying, right?
So, create a disturbance with your visual content, with my designs, on your social media feed.
When you create a disturbance, you are visible – once again we come back to visibility!
4. position yourself
Position yourself for success. “Positioning refers to an overall strategy that aims to make a brand occupy a distinct position.”
What separates you from your competitors?
“Power positioning is presenting yourself to the right person, at the right time and place, in the right way, with the right message.”
Go on, I dare you!
Perhaps this thought: “What separates the real pros from the amateurs is their ability to make whatever they are providing of vital importance to every prospect.” is the clincher in being visible.
5. just do it
It means – doing it in a straightforward manner.
If you want to write a blog – just do it
If you want to write a book – just do it
If you want to learn a new skill – just do it
If you want to be visible – just do it
A random bit of knowledge – did you know that Nike’s slogan “Just Do It” was inspired by the final words of a notorious killer (Gary Gilmore) in 1970’s Utah.
6. ask people what it is they want to see
It could be as simple as a single question: what would you like to see from me?
Why would you even want to guess what it is they want to see or hear from you? It’s like playing a game of dice where you know the dice are loaded in your competition’s favour because they have asked the question.
“We live in our own bubble when it comes to our businesses and we either think everything is important and needs to be communicated right now, or we fail to see when we’re out of touch with what our clients want or just plain confusing them …”
4 ways of finding out what they want:
· send them a short survey
· ask them a thought-provoking question via email and tell them to hit REPLY
· interview them individually by phone
· gather a group of them together (when it is safe to do so & lock-down permitting)
Or, perhaps you are already filled with thoughts of telling me what you want - so comment down below)
Sometimes the easiest way forward is actually the simplest.
When you’re not sure, ask the people who know – your audience.
So, now … how visible are you?
