7 Things You Do Not Experience When You're A Gym Owner

7 Things You Do Not Experience When You're A Gym Owner

And not a member of REX Roundtables!

  1. Adding control over your business

As the business owner or department manager, the feeling of being overwhelmed can engulf you. You can feel you are working for the business and not the business working for you. When you are in this state, it is super challenging to make any decisions! You question you own actions, you may not know what to do and the next step is quietly panicking - behind closed doors of course! That's the reality of running most fitness businesses!

Your REX Roundtable has peers that have probably had this same feeling and even experienced the same causes of this feeling. You can speed up getting out of this funk by speaking with your peers. And that is a benefit of being in a?REX Roundtables for Executives .

BTW - every business owner goes through this feeling of overwhelmedness (is that even a word because it is a feeling!).?#justsaying

2. Feeling supported & getting support

If have said it once, I have said it 100 times: as a fitness business owner you can feel isolated and lonely.? Carefully, re-read what I just said “you can”! You do not HAVE TO feel lonely or isolated!

As Aldous Huxley once said: “To associate with other like-minded people in a small, purposeful group is a source of profound satisfaction.”

If you want that feeling of profound satisfaction in 2024, then you should consider joining a REX Roundtable.?Again, re-read what I just said “consider.”?Do not poo-poo the idea until you know more about REX!

3. Reduce the stress

Being your own boss can be exciting.? It can also be stressful. In fact, it is no surprise then that?42 per cent of SME owners feel staff management is their biggest cause of stress.

So when you then add in the long hours, unpredictable cash flow, and significant changes in the fitness industry it is not surprising you can feel different levels of being mentally exhausted, stressed, anxious or worse still depressed.? These are real feelings of fitness business owners.

Surrounding yourself with your peers who will support you and guide you through empathy is the moist re-assuring feeling.

So joining a REX Roundtable is healthy for you go to REXRoundtables.com

4. Innovations for growth

Where the heck does innovation in the fitness industry come from?

I would like to suggest innovation is sparked through RnD: rip off and duplicate.? And that’s not a bad thing so long as you acknowledge the source, change it to your brand and you’re not wasting time duplicating a dud idea!

True innovation comes from discussion with a group of people who understand the business you are in.? You might call it ‘spit balling’ or brain storming or mind-mapping or just brain dump! Whatever the name, the result is a bunch of ideas from people who all understand the conundrum.

At REX Roundtables, we share best practices allowing us to learn about ideas that have worked and how to avoid pitfalls that haven’t.? We also constantly look for innovations from outside of the industry to make ourselves better.? That’s why REX is cool:, REXposure to outside industry practices and trends.

5. Less mistakes, so faster growth

When your car gets bogged, you try to accelerate out and your wheels spin! You just cannot get traction and sometimes sink deeper into the mud.? If only there was someone to either give you a nudge or pull you out.

As the owner of a fitness business, how often do you spin your wheels? You cannot move forward no matter how hard you try and the frustration levels grow (and your patience diminishes super-fast!).

What I love about REX is that the peer to peer support means there is always someone there to give your car a nudge or if you need to get pulled out of the mediocrity mud they are there for you!?

Your peers will speed up your progress as a leader and a business!

6. Honest feedback.

In a world where no-one wants to offend or say the wrong thing, do you ever get the honest answer to “Does this look good on me?”

When you are in a circle of trust with peers whom you have a deep relationship with, who care about you as a person, and who want the very best outcomes for you then they will tell you!

Candour and brutal honest can be confronting but again when it is delivered by someone who understands your situation and is delivered with empathy, you accept it and are grateful as you know it will make you better.

At REX we build trust between each other, so there are peer to peer challenges to get better. To lead better, manager more efficiently and invest more wisely.? This a truly unique aspect of REX and one you will love.? You’ll grow from this REXperince.

7. Circle of trust for confidentiality

When I was a gym owner I needed someone to run different scenarios by and in confidence. I had no-one until I joined REX in 1995.? Then I had 10+ peers I could seek confidential guidance from which never negatively impacted my competitive advantage.

Sometimes it was just talking out loud that clarified things for me.

Sometimes it was getting out of my environment, that opened up my mind.

More time than not, it was the conversations with peers who had walked/jogged/ran/sprinted a million miles in runners just like mine!

I seriously cannot put into the words the power of confidential conversations in my REX on my gym business. I think that was a major contributing factor in me wanting to become a REX Chair – I had experienced the power and wanted others to feel the same!
