7 things I wish I knew in 2017

Excuse me for jumping into your inbox on a Monday but I simply couldn't wait to tell you some things I?wish I had known in 2017!
1. Most of your time may be spent doing anything but being IN your business.
Unless you have a little black book of people clambering to work with you it takes time to get established. This does not mean you have to offer your services pro-bono for experience either. It just means you may need to work with someone on how to get yourself out into the world, so people know about you and what you do. Ask yourself what kind of business owner do you want to be?
2. You must decide to decide for yourself.
You will be enticed by every 5-day challenge advertised on socials and gather so much information that you will be battered with options. Eventually, though, you will have to decide. Ask yourself what YOU want your business to look like. What does success look like for you, not anyone else? You have to decide to decide
3. You become excellently skilled in so many things.
Within the first 2 years, you will wear so many hats. You will be an accountant, marketer, social media manager, networker, Canva expert, and website designer amongst other things. It can feel overwhelming, but it is all part of the necessary process.?
My suggestion would be to keep things simple. Choose a Canva template that you like and change it to suit your branding and don’t overcomplicate. Write social media posts from the heart to get started and revisit before posting. Concentrate on what works for you, and what doesn’t. Time is precious, don’t waste it.
4. Other business owners will be your greatest asset.
As a Coaching Supervisor and Specialist in group coaching, I want to encourage you to build a network of other businesses, especially in your own sector. Just because all coaches can coach the same doesn’t mean we need to! It's the same for you!
One of the most powerful ways to grow your credibility within your niche is to talk, collaborate, and network with other people in your industry. There are enough people to go around for every style of business owner and by building a strong referral network it will be reciprocated in time.
5. You will compare yourself to others.
With a constant barrage of business owners on all platforms, unless you are superhuman, you will look sideways on occasion. You will see the six-figure business owners launching £30K and you will start to doubt yourself and your ability. What you don’t see is that some of these business owners have a team behind them implementing the processes that they teach.
I always encourage the people I work with, to be honest about what they want financially in their business. Are you looking to replace an old income? Ask yourself what does success look like for you?
6. It’s not a race.
Most people that I work with have chosen to become self-employed to have more freedom in their lives, to have more happiness, to have more purpose. So why rush it? Many who choose to go self-employed do so so that they have more autonomy in what they do, so why rush it??
82% of coaching businesses never make it past the 2-year mark, and I for one, wanted this to be a business for life. A way of living and working that allowed me to put my mental well-being as a priority.

Ask yourself. Do you want to be a flash in the pan or do you want this choice to be your second career that supports the life you choose?
7.?Every business owner needs a Coach or mentor.
You can't solve the problems all by yourself, you can't be all things to all people and work out all your problems without sounding boards, and believe me, the dogs are useless in these situations!
Working with a coach helps you to put things into perspective, and have a clear vision of what you need to move forward, and will help you compartmentalise your thoughts so that you can be even more effective and successful.
I have a mentor for most things now. Marketing, Supervision, Business Growth, Emotional Wellbeing. I actively seek out people to make me a more rounded Coach and to do this I need to ask for help!
Can I be the coach to help you?
If I can help you on any of the 7 points or if you are looking for a Coach or Mentor to help you with your business please drop me a message.
