The Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary describes ‘to be in a rut’ as ‘to not have changed what you do or how you do it for a very long time so that it is not interesting any longer’.
I would also add, that being in a rut is also when you have an experience that leaves you so jaded that you no longer feel motivated, and you’re just going through the motions. Very much like what I spoke about last week, i.e. where you resign yourself and simply settle.
“How do I know if I’m in a rut?”, I can hear you ask?
