7 Strategies from a Billionaire [2 Minute Read]

I recently was able to listen to Jeff Hoffman, the billionaire founder of Priceline.com & Booking.com discuss his insights on how to be successful, intentionally design your life, and create more meaning in it.?Here are my notes that I thought some of you may benefit from reviewing:

  1. Chase excellence and money will follow, do not chase money.?Decide what you could get a gold medal in, what does your DNA, position, and passion give you an edge in and go all-in on that.?Scaling requires focus, you say "no" to everything else but what you are trying to scale.
  2. In America today there is an assumed almost shame in many circles to having wealth.?What Jeff pointed out is that there is no shame in making money, the shame is only in not helping others with that money you have.?He explained that to someone else your gift feels like a miracle, so in a sense, your success becomes someone's miracle.?Our team is speaking with Jeff's team about getting involved with his non-profit - World Youth Horizons.??
  3. Jeff emphasized having a rockstar team, aligning them around a singular focus as a company such as "sell more flowers" or for some here "own more doors" or "acquire more income" "close more investors" etc.?He found ways to bring value to their work and thank them, so when he donated a bag of money to a women's shelter or built a house for 25 orphans he would share the credit with his team and say, "you did this and this is possible because of all of you."??
  4. What is the one reason to do business with you that is most distinguishing, memorable, and powerful??Simplify your marketing down to just that (similar to how we discuss having a one-liner for your family office, investment focus, or investment offering)
  5. He once asked Michael Jordan why he would jump over the announcer table with computers and potentially injure himself without hesitation since he is already Michael Jordan and doesn't need to risk that.?Michael said that he is Michael Jordan because he doesn't hesitate to risk it, he is always willing to play every game as if it was for the championship title, and that is why he is Michael Jordan.
  6. During interviews ask what drives someone, what their big life goals are, or what they want in life.?That matters the most to Jeff, he said you can teach just about any skill but you can't instill character, motivation,?passion, or drive.
  7. Execute better and faster than anyone else, focus on operational efficiency at every turn with every action.?Jeff has a sign on his office door that says "Ideas are welcome, Execution is worshipped."

In case you know of someone as high quality and accomplished as Jeff, we hope in 2021 or 2022 to engage a billionaire who would want to work with us on building out our Billionaires.com asset.?Otherwise, thank you for reviewing this list, and if you ever have a chance to see Jeff speak in person make the effort to do so.??
