Our life changes everyday and honestly being pushed out of your comfort zone is not a pleasant experience. However, it happens and it is necessary. It is also necessary to deal with this change otherwise we will spend our whole lives being pushed around by what changes around us. Change is the only constant in life.
Change is the only constant in life.

A week ago I completed the book “Who Moved My Cheese” by Dr Spencer Johnson. the book tells us about ‘How to deal with changes”. I was impressed by the simplicity of the book and how well it taught me the importance of dealing with change and how to do it.
I will tell you today how to deal with changes in life with reference to “Who Moved My Cheese”.
1. Expect the change
Change is the only constant. We know this by now! So wouldn’t it be foolish to not expect the change will take place. Where ever you are today expect the life to bring some way to change it. If you get too comfortable with where you are, know that the time to change is near. Life is unpredictable.
The Universe doesn’t want you in a state of stagnation; it wants you to evolve and grow! The only way to evolve is to change. this change will not always be pretty. (Remember the caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis?).
2. Monitor the change
Now you know that change will take place. May be things are starting to change? When comfortable we humans can be blind about the things going on around us. We forget to keep up with the changing times.
How do you think Blockubuster failed?
They did not realize that the times were changing. They chose not to acknowledge the change. In the same way people become so sure themselves that they turn a blind eye to what’s happening around them.
That is why when the change arrives, it knocks them off by surprise. However, if you keep looking out for things that are changing around you, no change will ever surprise you i.e you will be better equipped to deal with it.
3. Accept the change
When life changes but you refuse to change yourself, or accept the change; the change will knock you over. Traditions and past is just history and if you refuse to adapt you too will become History.
So holding on hard to ‘what has been’ will only repress your growth towards ‘what can be’.
If you do not change you become extinct.
Stop fighting the tide and learn to flow with it.
Nokia was once a market leader but when it refused to accept the change in the industry, it stated losing. Other brands started coming up with better software while Nokia was busy with improving the Hardware. Now after realizing it’s mistake it is fighting hard to come back in the game.
Yahoo and Bing faced the same fate when Google stated evolving.
4. Learn to Enjoy
A change forces you to do new things. This is where people step back. When faced with something they don’t already know, people panic. They start to over-evaluate things and get frustrated.
They don’t want to try something new because they fear humiliation if they fail. They start to take stuff too seriously. However, what if you don’t fail? or even if you do, what’s the worst that could happen?
While dealing with change one should be hopeful and optimistic, because this new way might just work better. Always believe that opportunities are there. Visualize what you Desire and TRUST THE UNIVERSE.
Even if you fail, one should learn to laugh at self. Stop taking things too seriously. There are many ways to do one thing. If one way didn’t work out, try the other; but never give up.
5. Adapt ASAP
If you didn’t see the change coming, chances are it surprised you. However, now it’s here. Best you can do is to adapt ASAP before you are kicked out of the race.
Learn to change your way and do it quickly. Noticing small changes early help you to adapt to bigger changes fast. So rather than being thunder ignorant and thunderstruck, gather all your will power and bolt towards new way.
6. Be ready to learn
In order to adapt quickly, you need to be a quick learner. As people grow up they become so stern and rigid in their ways that they stop to increase their skill set. They develop a thinking that that they are too old to learn something new. Understand something…
YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD/YOUNG TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW!
Besides if you don’t keep upgrading your skill set you will be outrun by those who do. You can never know all, but you can always know more.

7. Be Proactive
What is better than to wait for change to arrive? It’s to initiate the change yourself. Don’t just keep up-to date. Be a step ahead. Keep experimenting with new ideas.
As the author said,
Initiate the change while you still can, rather than just reacting to change.
One more important thing in life is to take responsibility. Don’t blame others or circumstances for things that happened to you. Accept your mistakes, and take control of your life. When you put the blame on someone else, you give the power away to change to life. Keep your power with yourself . Always.
