As a business owner, you already have a billion things on your plate. And adding SEVEN more social media tasks to your workload may not look like the right thing to do. But here’s the deal: whether you love or hate it, social media is here to stay… and it’s a necessity for your business these days.
I mean, where else would you find a global audience of over 3.6 billion people? Yep, according to Sproutsocial that’s how many people use social media currently…and the number is projected to increase to 4.41 billion in 2025.
But before you plunge into researching tips and tricks for successful social media marketing, take a look at the 7 social media tasks you should do every month without fail.
Trust me when I say this, doing these tasks regularly will benefit your business and brand exponentially. They’ll also help in saving a ton of time in the long run.
Here are the 7 social media tasks you should do every month.
Create Monthly Social Media Goals
Once you have chosen the right social media platform/s for your business and the kind of content your audience likes, you can determine what you want to get out of your social media account. Brand awareness? Grow your community? Get more leads? Make more sales? These make up your social media goals. Along with increasing the engagement rate or the follower count (Although these vanity metrics are more of a means to an end). Having a fixed social media goal for the month will help you determine the kind of content you want to post on your social media account. It will also help you avoid wasting time wondering what to post and how to post it.
Make A Note Of The Upcoming Events
Take some time to prepare for the content on your feed by looking into holidays, national days, and events that are important for your audience and brand. Don’t forget to include your launches and other important company events in this. Once you have this information on hand you can schedule your other posts around these events. The benefits of this are twofold:
- You won’t have to pull something out of your hat at the last moment and end up with a generic post.
- You will be able to tailor your posts in advance to promote your launch on social media.
Create Your Content Calendar
This means prepping your content in advance instead of spending an hour or more daily thinking about what to post on social media for the day. Deciding what images, descriptions, theme, posting schedule, and promotions you’re going to create and post for the entire month helps you stay well-organized. It also helps you be more consistent and stay on track with your social media goals. It helps if you already have content categories in place before you start gathering and scheduling information for your posts.
Update Any Changes To Your Profile Or Bio
Your social media profiles and bios are your audience’s first impression of your brand. So it’s important that they’re kept current and updated. Are you offering a new product? Did you do a new launch? Did one of your customers give you a glowing review recently? Do you have new samples to add to your portfolio? Did you stop offering a product or service? Make sure your bio reflects all the changes that took place in your business in the past month. It won’t hurt to refresh your banner or your profile pic monthly either. You can also add old stories to your Instagram highlights and delete any highlights that are no longer relevant for your business.
Ensure Your URL Links Work
Spend some time checking the URLs (links) you used across all your social media profiles. Ensure that they lead the viewer where you want them to go. Remove the broken links. Posts, profiles, bios, buttons, and the featured section on LinkedIn are some of the many places you may have used links that you need to check.
Schedule Your Social Media Content Ahead Of Time
Once you have set your social media goals and have the social media calendar in place you can start scheduling your posts for the entire month in advance. Just think of all the time you can save each day by NOT scrambling to compose a compelling post on your account. Scheduling your posts in advance helps you:
- Be more consistent
- Save time
- Reach your audience at peak times. Even when you’re not around!
Tools like Hootsuite, Later, and Smarterqueue are great if you want to schedule your posts in advance.
Review Your Social Media Analytics
In order to know if your social media marketing is working, check your metrics for all social accounts. Look out for metrics like:
- Content metrics: What kind of content gets the most views and engagement.
- Timing metrics: Try posting at different times and see what time gets the most views and interaction.
- Audience metrics: What demographic interacts with your content the most.
- Engagement metrics: Which posts and hashtags got the most engagement. Was it positive or negative?
- Social Media Reach: How many people did your posts reach.
You can go a step further and check out what your competitors are doing successfully and what kind of buzz is your brand generating online. Create a spreadsheet to analyze each metric more easily. Did you reach your social media goals for the month? If not, what could be done to reach them?
Of course, there are a ton of other daily and weekly tasks you need to do if you really want to make an impact on social media. From daily engagement to brand partnerships, social media is a machine that you always have to keep oiled.
In fact, if you’re not careful, social media marketing can suck up a lot of your time. Time that you could have otherwise devoted to your zone of genius. That’s why many people choose to hire social media experts to handle these tasks for them.
