7 simple ways to grow your network on Linkedin

If you're on LinkedIn for business purposes, then growing your network should be one of your top priorities.

Not so you can have "oh look at me, I have a large following" numbers, but because every connection you make on LinkedIn extends your reach and potentially makes you more visible to your target audience.

Growing your network organically is a long-term strategy (so be patient), but you can get started on it today with these seven simple ways:

1)     Import your email contacts

If you already have an account set up on LinkedIn, chances are you’ve already taken the step of importing your email contacts as suggested by LinkedIn. This is the easiest way to start growing your network organically as everyone on that list is likely to be someone you’ve made some kind of connection with at some point.

2)     Add everyone you meet in real life

Ditch your business cards and get into the habit of asking everyone you meet in real life to connect with you on LinkedIn, if you’ve decided that this is going to be your main platform to focus your business building (and you should consider making this decision, by the way – it will pay off in more ways than one!).

3)     Post regularly and add anyone who likes or comments on your posts

When you start posting regularly and posting content that’s attractive to your target audience and interesting to your network at large, your own profile page starts to become a magnet for attracting people to your network. You can then take this opportunity to reach out to anyone who comments on or reacts to your posts by inviting them to join your network.

4)     Connect with anyone who likes your comments on other people’s posts

In the same vein as number 3, as you get more active on LinkedIn and strategically seek to engage with your network by adding meaningful comments on relevant posts, you’ll find that other people will be drawn to you through those comments by reacting positively and/or viewing your profile. Connect with anyone who likes your comments here.

5)     Add relevant people who view your profile

If you have a regular free account, LinkedIn allows you to see up to five people at a time who’s viewed your profile. Regularly look at the people that are viewing your profile and if any of them are interesting to you, and/or within your target audience, reach out and connect with them. Chances are they are likely to accept since they initiated the process (albeit unknowingly) by viewing your profile in the first place.

6)     Connect with active members in active groups you’re part of

I’ll admit, LinkedIn groups are generally dead but if you do find the gold dust that is a useful, active and engaged LinkedIn group within your field of interest, or relating to your target audience, participate fully in this group and use it as a resource to connect with active members (those that are posting or engaging regularly within the groups).

7)     Accept *almost* all invitation requests

As you start being more visible on LinkedIn, you will find that connection requests will start coming your way on a regular basis. Feel free to accept almost all of these – you might want to give the spammers, bitcoin and cryptocurrency sellers and the likes a miss as they’ll very likely immediately hit you with an unwarranted sales pitch upon connection.

?? Which one of these ways will you try today? Let me know in the comments…
