7 Reasons to Read
Some people love to read, while others would rather rub shards of glass in their eyes. Regardless of what camp you fall into, there is no denying that reading has significant benefits.?
Consider this regarding reading...
- Reading can significantly reduce stress.?Reading books have been shown to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety. Since I’ve had difficulty sleeping over the years, I started reading before bed, which helped calm my mind during my evening routine.
- An inexpensive way to learn.?Even though books provide a tremendous amount of valuable information, they’re often very affordable. Most books are so accessible that it’s almost too good to be true. I remember when I first discovered the interlibrary loan program - I was blown away. You can get books from anywhere in the country?!??
- It’s healthy.?Reading has been shown to reduce the effects of Alzheimer’s and enhance memory. By reading, you can put yourself in a position to have a better quality of life.?
- Reading will expand your vocabulary.?The majority of people only utilize 3% of the English language. By saying the same words over and over again, you’re not likely to learn new words in a normal conversation. Since books tend to use words outside of our standard word repertoire, it will empower us to use a higher vocabulary level.?
- Learn from the world’s leading experts.?There are tons of brilliant people that have recorded their thoughts in written form. You can learn from some of the most creative and captivating people on the planet while wearing your PJs in the comfort of your own house.?
- Be interesting.?Well-read people tend to be more interesting to talk with about various subjects since their scope of the world is more significant.?
- It’s entertaining.?Reading is a cheap form of great entertainment. Some of the best stories come from books, not movies or shows.
Let's commit to making reading part of our daily habits. We’re all busy, and sometimes it is challenging to prioritize, but if we just read a minimum of 10 pages a day, we’ll end up reading 3,650 pages a year. Think of all the information that we can go through. :-)
