7 Qualities of Top Notch Realtors
I’m a mortgage broker. In fact, I own a mortgage brokerage firm. I’m not a realtor. However, I’ve seen (and experienced) the difference between using any old realtor and using a Top Notch Realtor. When you’re searching for your next home, you want to have every advantage working for you!
Here are the 7 Qualities of Top Notch Realtors:
Quality #1) Top Notch Realtors know you need to get pre-approved from a Great Mortgage Professional first! Going to see houses without a preapproval is a (unfortunately) a big waste of time. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here! How can you know what you can afford or not afford without a preapproval? You can’t.

Quality #2) Top Notch Realtors work with your Great Mortgage Professional. I want to help you get into your dream house. Working with your realtor is a big benefit. Don’t have a realtor already? Just let me know! Chances are that I’ve already worked with a great realtor in the area you are looking in.
Quality #3) Top Notch Realtors have great attention to detail. Their attention to detail should expand far beyond the home that you want to see. A top notch realtor should be paying attention to details in contracts, contingency dates, and all the other minutia that goes into getting you into your dream home.
Quality #4) Top Notch Realtors are tech savvy (don’t worry, your Great Mortgage Professional embraces the latest and greatest technology, too). It’s not just having a smart phone. It’s not just having a working laptop. It’s being able to confidently manage and maneuver through electronic signature documents while setting up automated searched on the MLS database. You want every advantage when looking for your perfect home. So make sure you work with a tech savvy, Top Notch Realtor.
(the no-duh, but still have to mention) Quality #5) Top Notch Realtors are licensed experts in the area you’re looking. Let’s say you have a friend or family member, who is a licensed realtor. They live in Rockford (for example). But you’re looking for a home in Evanston, or Plainfield, or Matteson. Wouldn’t you want to work with someone who knows the area like the back of their hand. Someone who could speak to the quality of teachers, the traffic patterns, the latest building developments, etc.
Quality #6) Top Notch Realtors are patient and tenacious. Okay. That’s really two qualities, but they go hand-in-hand. You don’t want to work with a realtor who is going to give up showing you homes because you didn’t like any you saw during the first (or second, or third) outing. When negotiating with other realtors, you want them to patient, but also tenacious in getting you (their client) what you want. Some of my favorite realtors could be described as gritty or pragmatic. That’s who you want on your team.
Quality #7) Top Notch Realtors, just like your Great Mortgage Professional, are proactive, responsive, and available for YOU. We all have families and lives outside of work. Sure. But, you want a realtor that is working around the clock for you. Don’t wait two or three days for a call back from a realtor. Find one that caters to your schedule. They work for you!

MANAGING BROKER & OWNER OF MODE 1 REAL ESTATE, LLC?
7 年I appreciate using a local area expert because I am one. However, I will say that when my old high school friends or family have called on me when their local agent failed, I worked 10x harder for them. 1) I had to familiarize myself with the local market, the area, the schools, the park district, the building and inspection codes, and basically immerse myself into knowing MORE than the locals. 2) Area doesn't define diligence. Not choosing a top producing power agent because they are from Naperville and you are from Barrington is folly. That top producer is going to see this as an opportunity for growth and expansion and will use your listing as the catapult to capture a hold on that market place. Albeit, maybe for referrals to colleagues or this top realtors team members, but no opportunity is left untapped by the doers, the movers, and the shakers. 3) Consumers should never base their hiring decision on blanket factors such as location (technology has us limitless within our mls reach), visibility/brand names (just because signs are in the yard, doesn't mean they are selling), or age/sex of the agent (I've seen burnt out bitter seasoned agents & hungry, ambitious 23 year old's selling 10+ million a year). So I'd say Donald, that you are not necessarily wrong but maybe only partly right. If you hire someone out of area, its your responsibility to see that agents detailed marketing plan and assess their availability to suit your real estate needs. There's a lot to being the best... Much of it can be found just by interviewing the agent and hearing what they have to offer. MICHELLE SATHER Managing Broker and Owner of Mode 1 Real Estate, LLC
