7 Pillars of Power BI

What is Power BI

Power BI is a group of software services, applications, and connections that work together to transform your disparate data sources into coherent, engaging visuals, and interactive insights. Your data may be contained in an Excel spreadsheet or a set of hybrid data warehouses that are both cloud-based and on-premises. With Power BI, you can quickly connect to your data sources, view and identify what’s crucial, and share that information with whomever you choose.

Power BI is a business intelligence and data visualization application that transforms information from many data sources into interactive dashboards and reports.?The Power BI package includes a number of tools, connections, and services. It includes Power BI desktop, Power BI service based on SaaS, and mobile Power BI apps available for many platforms.

In Power BI, we can construct our reports on seven pillars.

These are the seven pillars of Power BI:

Seven pillars of powerbi

Now let’s talk about each of them.

1. Extraction

This is the stage when we retrieve the data from the Power BI Desktop data collection. With a more streamlined Power BI interface, you can communicate with any data source. Power BI can connect to any data source in order to provide the user with insightful facts. Anyone new to Power BI may connect data from many data sources by simply importing any custom file into the program.

2. Transform

The data can be cleaned and treated. The Power Query Editor, a component of the Power BI Desktop Environment, is used to carry out this action. Data should go through pre-processing after it has been loaded, as necessary. This procedure is known as data transformation or data shaping. It required a number of processes, including renaming tables and columns, altering rows and columns, changing the data type, appending, merging, etc.

3. Modeling

Power BI Desktop is used to model relationships between the data sets. In this case, we improve the data to obtain more precise insights and analytics. This is accomplished by establishing hierarchies and linkages between different data tables for better analysis.

4. Calculation

Where we may use DAX language analysis to construct different metrics. Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) is another name for it. To do so, many metrics and compute columns are created. Even the M Language is employed for a variety of tasks, particularly those involving data and time.

Conclusions and Final Thoughts —

Power BI is based on Microsoft Excel, and the learning curve from Excel to Power BI is not very high; anybody who can use Excel can use Power BI, but the latter is significantly more capable than its spreadsheet predecessor.
