Unlike marketing strategies like social media marketing, websites that rank in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) enjoy continuous, passive organic traffic. Before we get to on-page SEO, let’s briefly take a look at why SEO is important.
Internet users are more likely to choose one of the top 10 results provided by the search engine when searching the internet. Increased online visibility and search engine rankings brought on by SEO increase the likelihood that visitors will click through to your site, read your content, and/or make a purchase.
You are losing business if your target audience cannot locate your website. SEO will boost your website's organic search engine traffic, bringing in more distinct visitors. There are three most common types of SEO: On-page SEO, Off-page SEO and Technical SEO. In this article, I will share the 7 on-page SEO tips that work for me.
What is On-page SEO?
As a digital marketer who’s interested in search engine optimisation, you most likely have heard of on-page SEO. Because I don’t want to assume, here’s a working definition.?
On-page SEO is the practice of improving web pages to improve a website's ranking in search results and boost organic traffic. It is recommended that your website shows a high level of authority, credibility, and trustworthiness. The authority you gain from search engines will establish you as a leader in your industry.
7 On-Page SEO Tips
Google often makes algorithm modifications to provide users with optimal results. It is challenging to stay on top of every single update Google makes. Fortunately, there are guiding principles to help your webpage(s) rank. Below are some on-page SEO tips to make your web page rank on search engine result pages (SERPs).
Do keyword research
Choose the keywords you wish to rank for in search results. When conducting keyword research, select keywords with less competition and low difficulty. Also, choose those that are relevant to the topic and have high search volumes.
Make sure to naturally use the selected keywords in your content. Do not confuse keyword-rich with keyword stuffing; there’s a difference. I use SEMRUSH and SE Ranking for keyword research.
Use LSI keywords
According to David Harry, Lead SEO Consultant at Verve Developments, “Remember, search engines have about a 6th-grade reading/understanding level.”
Search engine bots are unable to read and understand the same way an average person can. They need help to know the most relevant pages that answer a search query. As a result, in addition to the keywords, your content should also include related keywords also known as LSI keywords. They provide context for your article or blog post and help search engines understand its subject matter.
If your content is about training a dog, for instance, include LSI keywords like “dog trainer”, “puppy training” and “training dog”. This helps search engines understand that the page is about training a dog and ranking it for that search query.
Improve your content organisation
The organisation and readability of the content of your webpage are important for on-page SEO. Many factors, in addition to unique content, affect page search ranking. Google claims that content created by subject-matter specialists is given priority. "Expertise, Authority, and Trust (EAT)"? is the name of this ranking system. Hence, search engines will rank a webpage if its content is helpful to users.?
As methods for understanding natural languages improved, indexing texts started to place more emphasis on writing style and organisation. Remember, search engines want to rank pages that they see as the most relevant. They do not want to rank pages that are difficult to understand when there are easier ones.?
Don't stuff your content with keywords. Search engines know it’s a tactic people use; a bad one. If you stuff keywords, search engines will penalise you. You can indicate the topic in your posts by including extra markers or hashtags. The best way to optimise your content for search engines is to create plagiarism-free content that is both informative and easy to understand.

Include Images and optimise them
People get discouraged when they see a whole block of text. Search engines know this. As a result, they tend to rank pages with media higher than those without. Include relevant images on your page. Ensure that the file name of every image you upload is visible.
The file name is preserved in the HTML source code whenever you add media to your website. Search engines crawl the code of your website, so be sure to give each image a name that appropriately describes what it is. Also, use alt texts with good descriptions for images.
Arrange your page with proper headers
The user experience is more important than the technical aspects of the site in on-page SEO.? Well-structured information can be read and understood more quickly and easily by both humans and search engines. Three key guidelines can be used to summarise best heading practices.?
Use relevant links (internal and external)
Internal links point visitors to one or more other pages on your website.? You can show that the page to which you are linking has content for the keywords you have picked as your anchor by building internal links. Linking within your website can be beneficial.
They can entice visitors to stay on your website for longer, which in turn reduces your bounce rate and informs search engines that you are providing high-quality results for their search queries.
External links, on the other hand, refer users to pages outside your site. These external pages offer more information to the reader. Use external links that are authorities on that topic. The reliability of each external source is considered when assessing a page.
Note: When hyperlinking, avoid generic anchor texts like “click here” and “learn more.” Instead, use texts that describe or name the link. Like this Hubspot post about 7 external linking best practices for SEO.
Optimise URLs
Although this is a site structure element, it is important for on-page SEO. Your page URLs should be easy for users and search engines to understand. They are important for maintaining the consistency of your site structure as you develop internal pages such as blog posts and categories.?
Search engines respect all of the above-mentioned tips and rank you highly in the SERPs because they see you as an expert in your niche.
What about meta descriptions?
Meta descriptions are the brief page summaries that appear under the title in search results. If you’re familiar with SEO, you may wonder why I didn’t mention meta descriptions. Well, they had their time. They used to be one of Google’s ranking factors. Although it's no longer a search engine's official ranking factor, it can affect your click-through rate.
Most users tend to click on pages with great meta descriptions that tell them in a few words what the page is about. If you don’t include meta descriptions, Google will display a random excerpt from your content based on the search intent.?
