7 lessons learned from creating and learning in augmented virtual reality
In the last 10 days I volunteered as a guinea pig to test EON Reality's new Augmented Virtual Reality (AVR) platform and got hooked. I created over 400 augmented and virtual reality lessons mainly around the topics I'm interested in. Here are the 7 lessons I've learned and wish to share.
1. Emotional fulfillment
Creating and experiencing augmented virtual reality applications has given me a sense of excitement, joy and fulfillment that I haven't experienced in other digital formats. Even super good interactive video games while engaging, leave me with a sense of emptiness and the feeling that I can do better things with my time
2. Addiction
My initial goal was to create 10 lessons. 400 lessons later, I was bingeing on knowledge creation driven by curiosity and the thrill of exploration. This satisfaction comes only with creating something truly unique
3. Motivation
Creating augmented and virtual reality experiences reminds me of my global travel adventures (130 countries so far) and the richness of the AVR experiences (visual, audio and tactile) motivates me to continuously look for what's next.
4. Wealth of Possibilities
Having more than 870,000 rich 3D interactive objects and AVR environments that I can wonderfully summon to appear anytime makes me feel "rich". A richness I have never experienced with other types of digital content
5. Who stole my cheese
After a 10-15 minute interaction in augmented reality with a famous sculpture or a historical artifact on my desk, it feels strange once I turn off my iPhone and the AR artifact disappears. The good news is that by using EON AR Assist, I can create anchor points around my house where my favorite augmented reality objects and environments can always be when I want them
6. Freedom
It is so liberating to be able to interact physically with everything from the famous Swiss particle accelerator in Cern to the latest SpaceX rocket anytime anywhere. The other day I was doing just that on my terrace while watching the sunset behind SpaceX rocket launch. Epic!
7. Sharing is caring
Over the last 2 weeks, I've personally experienced how easy it is to both create and experience augmented virtual reality applications. I feel like I am holding on to a wonderful secret and magic that everyone with an Android or iPhone device can enjoy today! I wish I had this when I was a kid, learning would have been so much more exciting. In the coming posts, I will share my lessons for free so you can also have a chance to experience the future of augmented and virtual reality.
Check here for some of the lessons that I created. I'll release many more in the coming weeks.
