7 leadership lessons from coaching 200 tech teams

Hey ALTers, Hari Here ??

The sun is shining in my face and I can barely see my screen as I sit in my temp kitchen (I'm in an Airbnb during a renovation of my apartment).

But I wanted to share something with you - 7 lessons for creating powerful tech teams.

I wore a long-sleeve shirt and even ironed it before the talk ??

Last week I did a keynote speech where I squeezed the last 12 years of my professional experience into a 30-min talk.

I reused many of the illustrations from the comic and I'm really proud of the outcome - both as slides and content.

With my gang, we'll probably expand this talk and put it somehow on Soft Skills Pills, but I wanted to share it with you now. As a token of appreciation for your support here ??

7 lessons for building powerful tech teams & organizations

These are 7 aspects I've seen that separate the great teams from the average ones:

  1. Teams that embrace disagreements & talk about the tough issues create trust & psychological safety
  2. Teams that structure their communication have more engaged people?
  3. Teams that have a clear joint decision-making process are fast
  4. Teams that value & use differences get better results
  5. Organizations that manage the expectation gaps are aligned
  6. Organizations that are open to external input grow & evolve
  7. Organizations that have a leadership team move quickly in one direction

Here's one new illustration I did for number 6:

The comic that summarizes the summary ??

What great teams & orgs do differently is they focus on the invisible - the human connections, the trust, the psychological safety. And then, they get results.

I tried to illustrate this concept in A Leader's Tale (Season 3, Episode 1)

By the way, Vasi will kill me if I don't give you this ??

This weekend I joked (but it's no joke! ??) that I have to cover for Vasi in our marketing efforts as she's on vacation.

Long story short - we give you 68% off for two of our soft skills pills until June 5th. These 2 pills are useful & fun and are great activities to do with your teammates after work.

Grab them now for just the price of a pizza.

Petya illustrated our gang's virtual office. I'm hungry already ??

Hari... still sitting in the kitchen, waiting for the washing machine to finish with the laundry ??

?? Repost if you find this useful
