7 KILLED, 16 INJURED AT A SHOOTING DURING THE HIGHLAND PARK FOURTH OF JULY PARADE! SHOOTER STILL AT LARGE !

Multiple people were shot along a parade route in north suburban Highland Park Monday morning, sources said.??The shooter was reported to still be active just after 11 a.m.?Witnesses said they thought the person was shooting down, from atop a high building.??

Hundreds of people fled for safety as the police responded to what they called “an incident” at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Ill., on Monday morning.?Nancy Rotering, the mayor,?said that the police were on the scene and urged residents to avoid downtown Highland Park.

The shooting started only 10 minutes after the start of the parade at 10 a.m. when shots were fired, ?striking an unknown number of parade-goers and sending hundreds of people running for safety.

A Chicago Sun-Times reporter said they saw blankets covering three bloodied bodies and five other people wounded and bloodied near the parade's reviewing stand. Several witnesses said they heard multiple shots fired. ?

One attendee, Lisa Schulkin, said the chaos began shortly after the parade started at 10 a.m. “All of a sudden you just heard the gunshots, multiple and quick in a row, and then masses, masses of people running,” she told a local news station, WGN9. “The streets were just filled with people running, kids crying,” she added.
