7 Key Traits That Drive Success

In his blog, Dr. Price Pritchett, Ph.D. , a decades long psychologist and consultant to executives in major corporations, identifies seven key attributes that stand out as critical success factors for breakthrough performance.?

  • Can-Do Attitude (A success-minded bias to “go for it” and make things happen; a sense of agency; optimistic in spirit)
  • Resilience (Ability to take problems in stride; rapid recovery from setbacks or failure; change-adaptive)?
  • Creativity & Innovation (Imaginative in coming up with viable new ideas; open to fresh and original approaches)?
  • Risk Tolerance (Readiness to experiment, explore new territory, or take different chances; venturesome)?
  • Resourcefulness (Ability to craft useful and unique solutions in challenging situations; clever use of whatever means are available)
  • Tolerance for Ambiguity (Ability to deal with uncertainty and unpredictability)
  • Staying Power (Emotional stamina; relentless pursuit of the goal at hand; perseverance)?

As I was reading these, I thought yes, these are all very true, but they’re not always fun and happy and puppies and kittens.

For example, my tolerance for ambiguity might need support from a bowl of chips and queso and a marg.?

My resourcefulness might cause someone to cry.?

And my can-do attitude will sometimes veer into self-righteousness.?

You see, there is a flavor to each of these traits.

It is how each person approaches life, grows, builds a business, communicates, etc.

And if you can be intentional about it, it's how you build a personal brand.

I see these traits as “here are the best ingredients for a delicious cake.”

But you get to decide what kind of cake, the flavor, the icing, decorations, and the presentation. It’s what makes the cake interesting, relevant and desirable.?

You can choose the default flavor. Or you can be intentionally different, fun, or edgy.?

Being intentional about your personal brand not only makes you more interesting, it brings awareness to your purpose, your bigger why, and your potential to make a difference in people’s lives.

P.S. Stay tuned for my new podcast, The Results Driven Life by Design, where I have conversations with people who have discovered the flavor of their cake and how it is making a difference in the world.
