Hi Ecosupporters,
This edition is dedicated to exploring seven innovative eco-design strategies that are revolutionizing building clearance. These approaches not only push the boundaries of efficiency but are also designed to significantly reduce environmental impacts.
1. Integrating Ecodesign Early Adopting eco-design principles early in the building design process is crucial. This approach ensures that environmental sustainability is considered from the inception of a project. For example, in the design of new heating appliances, early integration has led to designs that balance innovation with sustainability, thus streamlining the feasibility and market introduction phases. These principles are especially critical in sectors where rapid development cycles are the norm (Trela, Omhover, & Aoussat, 2012) .
2. Design for Disassembly Focusing on designs that allow for easy disassembly at the end of their lifecycle enhances the ability to recycle and reuse building materials. This strategy was exemplified in the eco-kitchen project, where components were designed to be easily separated, which significantly reduced energy use and waste during recycling processes (Sherwin & Bhamra, 1999) .
3. Multicriteria Ecodesign Tools Employing tools that evaluate designs against multiple criteria early in the design process helps in making comprehensive decisions. For instance, the Dependency Structure Modelling Value Bucket (DSM VB) algorithm has been used to map out the interaction between different design aspects, ensuring that all environmental, economic, and social factors are considered. This approach highlights gaps in ecodesign tools, particularly in the early design stages, and aids in developing more holistic and sustainable building designs (Lamé, Leroy, & Yannou, 2017).
4. Systemic Ecodesign Models A comprehensive, systemic approach to ecodesign integrates environmental considerations across all phases of product development. This model, spanning macro, meso, and micro levels, ensures that sustainability is not just a checkbox but a fundamental aspect of the entire lifecycle of a product. The integration of this model can dramatically improve the environmental footprint of projects, as seen in numerous industry applications where environmental requirements are woven seamlessly into product development and project management processes (Bronès & Carvalho, 2015).
5. Ecomimesis in Urban Design Urban designs that imitate natural ecosystems, known as ecomimesis, aim to create a built environment with no waste. By designing cities and buildings that mimic these natural systems, all materials and emissions are reused or recycled, integrating seamlessly with the natural world. This method fosters a fundamental redefinition of how urban environments are constructed and interact with ecosystems, ensuring sustainability is at the core of urban expansion (Yeang, 2008) .
6. Integrated Urban Ecodesign This innovation ties together urban planning and environmental conservation, aiming to create desirable, low-carbon communities that are well-integrated with public transport systems. This strategy has been applied effectively in projects that enhance connectivity while minimizing the ecological footprint, making cities more livable and sustainable (Barnett & Beasley, 2015) .

7. Innovative Material Reuse The innovative reuse of materials in construction not only reduces waste but also introduces new properties that enhance building performance. A notable example is the use of agave dry fibers and expanded plastics in wallboard panels, which not only recycle urban waste but also improve the insulation and structural strength of buildings, leading to a new system that lessens the ecological impact of construction materials (Madariaga, Sierra, & Gómez, 2016) .
These seven innovations pave the way for a sustainable transformation in the building clearance and construction industries. By incorporating these eco-design strategies, we can significantly reduce environmental impacts while fostering efficiency and innovation in building practices.
