7 Ideas To Revamp Yourself For 2021
My dear friend. As the year 2020 is drawing to a close, I’m sure we can all agree it is the ideal time to look back on what we’ve achieved for the past 11 months or so.
Was it a year full of achievements? Or did you fall short of reaching any of the goals you have set your eyes on?
No matter where you land on this year, fresh beginning just around the corner, you are given a brand new opportunity to do things differently! You should make 2021 your most spectacular year.
I’m sharing a couple of tips that I found useful. Hope it will move you closer to your best year ever!
Set your goal, I mean your real goal...
It’s important to remember that before you set your goals for the coming year, you need to make sure that you actually want them, not because someone says it is nice to have.
Be honest with yourself. If your goal is not all that important to you, you probably won’t be willing to give it all you got to achieve it.
Be specific, write down why you want these goals. Don’t get yourself overwhelmed, start by writing five goals.
Your goal must motivate you, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound.
Invest In Yourself
The job market was one of the things that changed the most this year. The pandemic changed the way we work and our employment status.
That means there is no better opportunity to invest in yourself than now. The best part is that investing in yourself does not have to cost a lot of money.
There are blogs for finance, coaching, fitness, coding, baking, cooking, interviewing, and just about any other skill, you like to learn.
You can spend a little bit of money to buy some books, and listen to some videos on Linkedin or Youtube for some inspiration.
Decide what you want to do to invest in yourself, and then go for it.
Cut Things Out of Your Life that Doesn’t Work
One of the best things you can do to give yourself a great 2021 is to cut anything out of your life that isn’t working for you.
Cut out the things in your life that just aren’t working for you. These can include clutter, relationships, spending, debt, bad food, clothing that doesn’t fit or is too old to keep, finance advice, discouragement, budgets, or anything in between.
Cutting the weight that holds you down will be an accomplishment this year. You will found that a lot of things in life are just distractions.
Get A Raise
The number one thing you want to do is become a top performer. Start now to go above and beyond.
Focus on what you can do for your employer, rather than what they can do for you. Start tracking the results of the things you have done to contribute to the company.
Schedule a meeting with your boss to discuss what you need to do and the time frame you want to do it in. Ask your boss to give you the support and resources needed to accomplish these goals. Then, become a top performer in the company and increase your income!
If you didn’t get the support you needed, ask yourself whether it's time to move on.
Look For A New Job
Sometimes a new job can help to increase your salary. Search LinkedIn, websites like Indeed.com, and Glassdoor.com for open positions in the field of your expertise.
When you interview, keep in mind it is not about you; it is about what you can contribute to the company where you are applying. Research the company to know the position.
Address concerns they may have head-on in the interview. You can even roleplay a fake interview with a friend or a coach to practice answering interview questions.
Remember, the interview is your first impression, so you want to make it an extraordinary one.
An interview should be like a casual badminton game, where questions are lobbed back and forth. Let me list some sample questions you can ask your interviewer;
- What do the day-to-day responsibilities of the role look like?
- What’s your favorite part about working at the company?
- What does success look like in this position, and how do you measure it?
- Are there opportunities for professional development? If so, what do those look like?
- What do you see as the most challenging aspect of this job?
- Is there anything about my background or resume that makes you question whether I am a good fit for this role?
Start A Business
Side hustling is a great way to earn extra income, but it is not a great long-term solution because it is essentially working two jobs, even if it’s doing something you love.
To start a side hustle, examine the skills that you have outside of work. If people find it valuable, they will pay you for it.
When people start paying you for what they value, that is when you have a business, even if it is just a small one.
Here is the checklist to start a business:
- Nature of business (what you sell)
- Target customer
- Location and platform (online or offline)
- Capital (list down all possible spending for 6-12 months period)
- Assets require to set the business up for running
- Lease and renovation
- Suppliers
- Labour (hire people or outsource)
- Company registration and bank account
- Marketing plan
- Accounting and financial analysis
Grow Your Social Media
Sales are no longer a top priority for customers. Instead, it is information, engagement, and social issues that are driving engagement and future retention.
Keep yourself up to date with new trends in the world of social media. New and emerging platforms like TikTok are becoming increasingly popular. If there are any new platforms or features that you haven’t tested out yet, now is the time to start analyzing which new platforms make sense for your business to join.
Content is king, you need to plan out your posts accordingly. On the days that you feel creative, take a few hours to brainstorm ideas for social media content. Next, create a big batch of social media content all at once. Once you’ve created all of the content, you can plan out what you want to post when and then schedule the posts out.
Revamp your social media accounts and update all of your bios. Review your bios and see if any important updates need to be made. Be sure to include a link to your website. Make sure your bios are consistent across all of your social media platforms.
Start to connect and build a community. To help you grow your social media community even more in 2021, it’s a great idea to look for more ways to collaborate.
