7 Health Paraxodes That Keep Showing Up

In all my years of thinking about health, there are some paradoxes that don't go away. They excite, frustrate, intrigue, and keep me interested in how our health and bodies work.

Here are 7 zany health paradoxes to think about

#1 The Paradox of Stress

? We hear stress and we think == bad

? But stress is also needed for growth.

? Too little stress == no progress

? Too much stress and you can't recover

? You need to find your ‘stress sweet spot’

#2 The Paradox of Masterly Inactivity

? When we have a coach, we want them to tell us everything.

? But the best coaches say less and observe more.

? Too much coaching is confusing

? Knowing the exact time to step in makes a master coach.

#3 The Paradox of Self-Coaching

? A fitness coach cannot coach themselves; they need someone else!

? Aka. Coaches need coaches too

? The skill of coaching (critique) is different from practicing (performance)

? As you get better, you need more help, not less.

#4 The Forgettable-Satisfaction Paradox

? Every time you exercise, you feel great after

? But somehow you never remember that good feeling that comes after.

? All you can think of next time around is how much you'd rather not exercise today.

#5?The too-busy-to-exercise paradox

? Many of us feel like we're too busy to work out.

? It’s easy to skip a workout to push through work.

? But getting to workout helps with anxiety, and helps you feel less busy

#6 The Paradox of 80% Consistency

? People who are 80% compliant have better long term results than people who are 100% compliant.

? Because 80% compliance is more forgiving than 100%

? 100% of people burn out in weeks (or days)

? 80% people can keep a practice going for months (or years)

#7 The Paradox of Making It Look Easy

? In fitness- the easier it looked, the harder it was to get there.

? Just because something looks effortless, doesn’t mean it’s easy to do

? A lot of the work is invisible, and missed by a casual onlooker.
