Much has been written about habits so I am not telling you anything new here.
Rather I am simply reinforcing the importance of having good habits for your life to function at a higher level and achieve success.
There are a few good habits that can truly change your life.
Habits shape so much of who you are and your ultimate direction in life.
Give the following seven habits a try and you will see some great changes in your life.
But just like with anything in life you need to apply them consistently to get results.
HABIT 1 — Plan your Day the Night Before
This simple habit will radically change your life.
It may sound too simplistic but its impact will be big on your life.
By?planning your day the night before?you’ll be more organized, efficient, and better prepared to take on your days.
You see the simple act of planning your day the night before programs your subconscious mind for success and good organization.
FACT: Highly successful people spend 80% and more of their time just planning. This includes planning their workdays, time off, and more. They know that a life without a plan is a life planned to fail.
HABIT 2- Daily Goals
For your life to work at a higher level where you have a real sense of progress and accomplishment you must have daily goals.
It's not enough to just have goals. Daily you must work towards them.
They must be incorporated into your daily life and be a priority like having lunch and brushing your teeth.
I structure my days excluding Sundays around six goal-achieving activities. It enables me to make great progress and avoid getting enslaved by daily trivia.
Daily you should have an empowering routine that revolves around your goals.
FACT: Highly successful people work on their goals daily. They incorporate them into their schedule. This gets the needle moving in their life and allows them to rise above the daily grind.
HABIT 3- Reading
Warren Buffet makes time to read?daily for at least 30 minutes seven days a week.
No one can say that he is less busy than you or me. It’s a must for him so he schedules time for it.
Buffet has in fact credited a lot of his success to his reading.
Reading expands your mind and opens you up to so many possibilities.
But you should read subjects like self-improvement, human potential, psychology, wealth creation, health, philosophy, biographies, business, etc.
These will leave you going to bed smarter than when you woke up.
FACT: Reading is to the mind what exercise is for the body. The average CEO reads 52 books a year. A book can save you 5 to 10 years by giving you the right strategy — health, business, financial, etc.
HABIT 4- Health is a Priority
Your health is everything. Once your health goes so do you.
You can’t afford to put it on the back burner and say “I’m too busy”, “I just don’t have time.”

Daily you must prioritize your health — getting enough sleep, sufficient periods of rest throughout the day, eating right, and exercising.
Some?research?seems to suggest that 30 minutes of daily walking will add five years to your life. Who doesn't want an extra five years?
FACT:?Highly successful people look after themselves daily as they understand the link between good health and success. Health encompasses mental, emotional, physical, sexual, and spiritual.
HABIT 5- Being Fully Present
The reality is that most people live either in the past or the future.
This severely interferes with their overall enjoyment of life.
It’s perfectly okay to visit the past and future but you must not live there.
It's important to live in day-tight compartments — live one day at a time. This is all about being fully present and being in the moment.
FACT:?Highly successful people spend 90% living in the present moment and 5% in the future. This is the sweet spot. They live day by day but have a future vision to pull them.
HABIT 6- Managing Emotions
To be successful you must have a reasonable degree of EQ-?emotional intelligence.?This is essentially being ‘emotionally fit.’
Much has been written about emotional intelligence in recent times.
But most people still struggle with the concept of emotional intelligence.
Put simply emotional intelligence is all about being aware of your emotions both positive and negative and managing them accordingly.
Your life to a large extent is shaped by your emotional patterns so you want to pay attention to what emotions you're entertaining on a consistent basis.
FACT: Highly successful people are able to manage their emotions. They have emotional poise and are not too high or too low. They are balanced. This allows them to make smart decisions in business and in life.
HABIT 7 — Manage Time Well
The truth of the matter is that you can't manage time, you can only manage activity and your energy levels.
That is you can manage your output (what you do) and your input (your body’s natural energy levels).
To do it well you must systematize and structure your life in such a way that allows you to be productive.
Tied closely to this is working with your?chronotype?— when you work best. Use it to your advantage and you’ll function so much better.
For instance, if you are a morning person do your most important work then. The same can be said if you're an evening person. Dont try to be both!
FACT:?Highly successful people get more done in a year than what the average person accomplishes in a lifetime. They are masters at managing their activity and energy levels.
To recap the seven habits of highly successful people are:
Start with just one or two of these habits and test them out for at least 30 days.
There is a lot of research on the 30-day mark and successful habit formation.
Remember your habits are shaping your life day in, day out.
