7 Habits of Highly Ineffective People...

7 Habits of Highly Ineffective People...

Success leaves a trace - so does failure...

There are plenty of methods, systems, and models for success, being a high achiever, and building the perfect life...

Just look at the Self Help section on Amazon or at your local bookstore, and there will be guides for everything from Procrastination, Imposter Syndrome, Motivation, Health, Well-Being, and just about every aspect of life you can think of - and plenty you hadn't thought of yet...

In conversation with a client, he told me...

I've figured it out - I've got Imposter Syndrome..

This newly discovered label - one that during my career I wasn't aware was available to me - became a badge of honour, an excuse for why he wasn't achieving...

Of course, it wasn't true - he was just lazy and disorganised, but having a contemporary label made him feel justified in his seething mass of under-achievement...

Informing him of this didn't go well - one of the main traits of being ineffective is the ego not being able to accept change and adaptation - there's a reason the Dunning-Kruger effect was described...

Doing what I do, I work with people who achieve personal and professional goals - there is an unwritten law that states...

Successful people have Coaches...

Not Coaches make successful people - it's the other way round. I have found the most successful clients require the lightest of touches, the coaching sessions are positive and forward focussed, they have a high level of output and attract opportunities...

Makes my job easier in lots of ways...

From time to time over the years I have been invited to Coach someone who is stuck, maybe a team member, colleague, or friend of a client - and whilst regularly these relationships go well, when they don't there is usually a reason, a pattern that repeats.

I have called this pattern The Seven Habits of Highly Ineffective People - they do things that most of us take for granted as being out of place, so here is my list of how you too can become Highly Ineffective...

  1. Be Late - always be late for appointments and meetings, get the time wrong on a ZOOM call, forget about time zones - be the person who is always stuck in traffic, gets lost, forgets, and arrives at least 10 minutes after the meeting starts...
  2. Don't keep Promises - one of the best ways of being a failure is to not do what you say you are going to do - simply forget about commitments, deals, and agreements and just do your own thing; this is one of the best and most effective traits...
  3. Find Excuses - for everything. Blaming other people, the dog, the cat, the traffic, your wife, children, or the time of year is a great way of preventing achievement. You can be really creative here using all sorts of third-party issues to support your inactivity and lack of planning...
  4. Know It All - making out you are the font all knowledge on every subject from Covid to International Politics is a sure way to slow yourself down. Avoid books, seminars and workshops at all costs and under no circumstances get any qualification of any sort - David Icke has all the information you need..
  5. Don't Get a Coach or Mentor - this will cement your position at the bottom of the league and ensure you wander around in a sea of perpetual mediocrity, being able to tell stories in the pub to your like-minded mates who will agree with you that life sucks and failure is to be expected...
  6. Apply Labels - the more negative labels you apply to yourself in support of your condition of being Highly Ineffective the better. It means you can not only fail at things but justify your failure to yourself and others because you have a label to prove it...
  7. Never Finish a Project - to really guarantee your ability to be Highly Ineffective you should under no circumstances ever actually fin....................

And it's really frustrating, isn't it...

So there you have it - most people reading this will already know these things intuitively - the fact that you are reading this means they probably don't apply to you...

Have a great week...

An extremely interesting read, David am I the only one who feels that they all apply? And probably to most?
