7 COMPELLING REASONS WHY INVESTING IN YOUR EMPLOYEE WELLBEING LEADS TO IMPROVED BUSINESS PERFORMANCE

Imagine you walk in a company you always wanted to work for and the hiring manager says, “Many of the team members you were meant to work with on a project you must deliver today are sick, so we need you to up your game and do the five people’s job at the standards of excellence required” and if you fail, there will be consequences.’ It’s laughable! 

Yet, after 20 years of successfully delivering multi million pound technology programs and mentoring, coaching and training thousands of senior executives from many parts of the world I notice that many still chose a reactive rather than a proactive approach to issues that that if not tended, they lead to increased stress, employee burnout and increased absenteeism.

Survey conducted in 2015 by the Telegraph on Britain’s Healthiest Company shows that the average annual cost of absence and presenteeism due to ill health is around 8% of a company’s wage bill. Another survey done by CIPD in 2009 shows the average cost of filling an employee vacancy (recruitment, selection, temporary cover, redundancy payments, training and induction) is £6,125. That is a lot of wastage that companies could do without.

Let’s be frank here, the 21st century conscious workforce no longer will sacrifice their health for money, they love to work in an organisation that is mindful of many aspects of the way they feel about their daily lives, jobs, and relationships. 

Reason being, your employees feelings of wellbeing at work are influenced by day to day experiences with customers, colleagues and management, how purposeful you feel and the work that you do. 

Employers can have a major influence on an individual sense of wellbeing, which can have a multitude of benefits for the organisation itself. So here are seven compelling reasons why investing in your employee wellbeing training, mentoring and coaching is the most cost-effective solution to your company’s increased absenteeism, low productivity and poor performance. 

  1. The healthier your employees are, the more control they have over their job. They know how to clarity of what is expected of them, their team members and their customers.
  2. The better your employees feel, the better they perform. Training your employees on a regular basis makes them feel good about themselves, the jobs they work and develop a positive belief about their workplace that goes far beyond the company grounds.  
  3. In every employee there is a rebellious inner child that does not want to listen. Exposing your employees to an expert whose teachings can improve their relationship with their inner child will reap many benefits. They will feel more mentally and emotionally stable and it will satisfy their inner hunger for growth, variety and safety. 
  4. Employees who are present and feel more grounded do listen better. The more aware your employees are, the more productive they can become providing their sense of personal purpose is in alignment with the company’s one.  
  5. It improves your company culture. When employee wellbeing programs and training are in place, it helps promote a wider value to others. It makes employees feel safe and it creates a pleasant working environment where personal performance starts to increase. 
  6. It creates a supportive supervision and management structures. This gives employees a sense of job security, clear career prospects and promotes a good work/life balance. It helps reduce stress, build resilience and improve performance through teaching employee’s mindfulness techniques. 
  7. It maximises your employee’s potential. We know that most successful sports people have a coach, some even have more than one coach. Great article, I have to agree being your student for past 4 years most certainly not only exponentially transformed my #mentalhealth & #wellbeing.
