7 Common Sense, Practical Tip For Finding A Job In An Uncertain Job Market

I receive 100s of messages a week requesting a job, unsolicited CVs with no introduction and even applications for roles that do not exist within our company.

With that in mind I thought I would share some of my tips for finding a job, especially in these uncertain times with massive job layoffs.

And before I begin, FULL DISCLOSURE, I am NOT in recruitment or HR. I am NOT a hiring professional, this is NOT career advice. These are just my 7 simple, common sense, practical ways, to finding a job in an uncertain job market.

With that said, read on...

Finding a job can be challenging at the best of times, but in an uncertain job market, it can be even more difficult. Despite the challenges, there are steps you can take to increase your chances of finding employment. Here are some of my tips for finding a job in an uncertain job market.

  1. Network, Network, Network: Your network of friends, family, and professional connections can be a valuable resource when searching for a job. Reach out to people you know and let them know you're looking for work. They may know of job openings or be able to provide valuable advice. If you reach out to people on LinkedIn make sure you research them and their organisation first, tell them why you are reaching out... DON'T just say "I want a job".
  2. Update Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile: Your resume and, more importantly, your LinkedIn profile are your first impression on potential employers. Make sure they are up-to-date, well-written, and tailored to the job or industry you are applying. Highlight your relevant skills, accomplishments, and experience, and make sure you outline why you are the best fit for for prospective employers.
  3. Utilise Job Search Engines: There are many job search engines available, both free and paid - LinkedIn is one of the best!. Utilise these resources to search for job openings in your field or location. You can set up alerts for new job postings and receive daily updates on new job opportunities.
  4. Consider Freelance or Remote Work: If you are having trouble finding a full-time job, consider freelancing or remote work as an alternative. Freelancing allows you to use your skills and experience to provide services to clients on a project-by-project basis. Remote work offers the opportunity to work from anywhere, which can be especially appealing in uncertain times.
  5. Be Willing to Learn New Skills: If you're struggling to find a job in your current field, consider expanding your skillset - Linkedin Learning Courses? are perfect for this! This can make you a more competitive candidate and open up new opportunities. Consider taking online courses, attending workshops, or learning a new language to expand your skill set and increase your marketability.
  6. Stay Positive: Job searching can be a long and challenging process, but it's important to stay positive and motivated. Surround yourself with supportive people, set achievable goals, and take care of your mental and physical health. Don't be afraid to reach out for help or support if you need it.
  7. Be Persistent: Finding a job in an uncertain job market may take longer than you expect, but it's important to stay persistent. Apply for multiple job openings, follow up on applications, and continue to network and expand your skill set.

They are my 7 simple and practical steps for finding a job in an uncertain job market. The importance of networking is critical, make sure your profile is updated, learn some new skills, and most importantly STAY POSITIVE and BE PERSISTENT. If might not happen overnight, but it will happen.

I hope this tips have helped you.

This is so true and very Helpful, thank you so for this. I'm a Father of 3 boys, wholook up to me for support, and not been able to buy food for them, and continue their studies, breaks me apart, and made me loose confidence in myself, as a Failure and was giving up hope, all together.. When, I read this, I was moved to know there is people out there, going through what I'm going through and a bright idea hit me on the 7 points.. ONE BEING : Willing to work outside my scope of work, from my resume... That's what I feel was missing, letting companies and organizations know, that one is willing to Learn more, different skills and to take on different challenges, if given the opportunity... Thank you kindly Mark Raynard 0612322633
