7. BUILDING A STRONG COMPANY PROFILE

Welcome back to Corporate Thursdays , where we guide you on the journey from informal ‘Juakali’ ventures to the world of corporate business. Following our previous article What is Your Unique Selling Proposition? , today we’re focusing on a critical aspect of business growth: Building a Strong Supplier Profile.

In corporate business, your supplier profile is your professional identity—it’s how potential partners see you in the corporate landscape.

It’s not just about listing your products and services; it’s about crafting a narrative highlighting your strengths and convincing others to work with you. So, let’s dive into the art of building a supplier profile that reflects your business’s unique capabilities and positions you as a leader in your specific industry. The profile should be in your brand colours since it reflects your company and you can refer to our previous article on branding to learn more.

What is a Company Profile?

A supplier profile is a document that introduces a business's mission, vision, goals and history. A standard company profile includes the following sections:

Why is a Supplier Profile Important?

  1. A supplier profile differentiates your brand
  2. It is a requirement for most tender both in government and private sector
  3. It may justify a higher price point
  4. It builds your company's reputation

How To Write a Company Profile

1. Start with a Template

If you're not a design guy, it is advisable to start with a template that closely resembles what you'd like to create or hire a designer if the funds allow. Some great places to find templates include Canva , slidebean.com , freepik.com and templatelab.com . Customize them to make them unique and make sure to add the pages listed below for a comprehensive company profile.

A company profile represents your brand and it is essential to choose a template that is close to your brand, the colours can be altered without much fuss. Use the brand image you created such as colours, logo, font and other brand elements as detailed in our branding guide.

2. What is the Goal of the Company Profile?

Writing an effective company profile requires careful consideration of the most critical part, the goal of writing the profile. If your goal is to attract investors, you should include information on your business's performance, the value of the products you sell, and the company's revenue. If you want to attract customers, add the company values to your profile.

The company profile's purpose should act as your guide throughout the writing process, so take your time to ensure it is clear.

3. Write Away! Tell your Story and be Authentic.

When it comes to corporate business, it's important to remember that you are not the only one offering your product or service. However, what sets you apart from the rest is your unique story. So, while creating copy for your company profile, don't just focus on numbers and facts, but instead, share your story and let your potential customers know who you are.

Be genuine and authentic, and reveal why you started your business. Tell them what motivated you, and share both the good and the bad experiences that you went through. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it should be you.

4. Add your Company's Mission and Vision Statement.

Crafting a mission and vision statement for your company is essential. It's not as complicated as you might think, and you don't need to overthink it. Just ask yourself these three questions:

1. Who is your target consumer?

2. What product or service do you offer to solve their problems?

3. Why should your consumers choose you over your competitors?

5. Write your Company's Interesting History

To avoid confusing your readers, it is important to present the company's history in chronological order. You may choose to use a paragraph or a timeline format as long as it has a clear flow. It is also recommended to only share the major milestones and avoid overwhelming the reader with too much information. Answering certain questions can help you develop a clear mission statement that defines your business and its purpose.

7. Describe the Products and Services you Offer

The next step is to elucidate the array of products and services your enterprise provides. Opt to spotlight a selection of your premier offerings, delving into detailed expositions, or elect to catalogue the entirety of your business's provisions. This juncture serves as an opportune moment to incorporate visual allure through images, paired with compelling descriptions, to ensnare the interest of your audience.

8. List the awards your company has received

If your company has received any awards or recognition, make sure to add them to your profile and provide a brief description. These accolades demonstrate your company's values and increase the community's trust in you.

9. Attach Relevant Certifications and Accreditations

When applying for tenders, most institutions will ask you to submit some government documents to ensure compliance with regulations. This might not be necessary but it saves time especially if you apply tenders in bulk. Some of the required documents include:

  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • CR-12
  • Tax Compliance Certificate
  • AGPO Certificates
  • Valid Business Permit
  • NHIF, NSSF
  • Other niche certificates (NCA, EPRA, Supplier Certificates, Director Certificates etc.)

10. Add your Company's Contact Information.

To establish a strong and reliable communication channel with your prospective clients, it is crucial to provide them with all possible means to connect with you. Your company profile should contain comprehensive information that includes your social media profiles, websites, phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, and physical address. Remember to ensure that this information is displayed prominently in your profile so that your potential clients can easily find and reach out to you.
