Summer is usually the season of leisure, and one of my favourite summer pastimes remains reading. This summer I was lucky to discover some wonderful pieces of writing, most of them fiction.
Here are my favourites:
1. A Gentleman in Moscow, Amor Towles. It is written in the most exquisite language I have read in years.
2. Educated, Tara Westover. A true story about abuse, family bonds and the power of education.
3. Where the Crawdads Sing, Delia Owens. A mystery story about murder, isolation, nature, written in the most poetic language.
4. Before We Were Yours, Lisa Wingate. A story of organized child abuse, based on an real life American scandal
5. City of Girls, Elizabeth Gilbert.A story set in 1940's New York about a young girl learning about freedom.
6. Der Hase mit den Bernsteinaugen, Edmund de Waal. The story of a Jewish family during a century of European turmoil, the ebbs and flows of its fortunes, carefully grounded in the history and lifestyle of the time.
Still, even if not fiction, I cannot skip the one book that impressed me the most: Thinkertoys, by Michael Michalko. This book is a perfect tool for all those looking for new solutions to old/new problems. It is very fun to work with, too.
I am looking for some more reading discoveries for the rest of my summer, so I would be grateful if you sent me your recommendations about your favourite books.
