#7 | Ben’s Jammin Market Crushing Strategy List

Sometimes it feels like our business, or our practice, gets stuck in a stale rut and our productivity falls off. Sometimes it feels like our productivity is high, but our results and more importantly our profitability starts to fall. Does any of this sound like you?

How do you brainstorm or work on ideas to get a fresh look?

Do you have any reliable strategies or marketing partners that help you update your look, or increase your market penetration?

Many times people fall into the Features trap. It’s like the crazy and tragically false concept “if you build it they will come and buy.” 

Recently I had a conversation with a vendor about their service offering changes to their price structure. They have functionality I don’t need and I don’t want to pay for. 

Their perspective is that their platform has a lot of functionality and therefore a lot of value. From a pure revenue standpoint, I understand the need to not commoditize your offering.

But when differentiation is comprised of stacking a bunch of features together you create feature overload, functional confusion and distract the user from effective adoption. I love details and being able to get into all the nooks and crannies of things, but I have discovered that for the vast majority of the market - I am on outlier. It is far better to keep it simple and straightforward. 

The best programs are modular in concept and pricing because it is more respectful of the client’s dollar, and it doesn’t force them into feature overload to try and be sure that value is received for the price paid. 

As a practitioner of moving complex projects and concepts forward with clients, I find a foundational and beneficial approach is to allow the client to stack features in a progressive manner. This makes it more likely that user adoption for additional features will be higher than if the 7 course meal is presented from appetizer to aperitif simultaneously. 

That being said. While I have a literal “book” of strategies that can be used to promote a business or representative, I am only going to lay out 20 great ideas for 2020 below in a list format.

If you are promoting for the purpose of political causes or candidates, or for non-profits - the strategies are similar but present and push differently. The list below assumes that you are promoting a commercial product or service.

1.   Social Media Digital Engagement-multi channel. This should be 4-6 sites depending on what your target market is. 

2.   Personal word of mouth 

3.   Authorized representatives 

4.   Affiliate marketers 

5.   Door knocking 

6.   Telemarketing 

7.   Email marketing 

8.   Podcast advertising 

9.   Social Media Marketing - paid ads - this is between 1 and 6 - again depending on your target markets.

10. Joint venture marketing 

11. Networking in-person 

12. RE-engagement campaigns to prior clients 

13. Engaging social media influencers in your target niche. 

14. Content creation & distribution as a Vlog is a different strategy from previously mentioned digital strategies.

16. Craigslist ads 

17. Online classifieds (for standard newspapers - often less expensive than print, come with dual listing options)

18. Referral networking groups such as BNI, Chamber of Commerce, LeTip and topic/market/industry specific masterminds 

19. Have a digital marketer that knows Wikipedia post an article on Wikipedia for you if one does not exist. Understand there are rules that must be followed here - can’t be a marketing piece. Must be 3rd party objective. 

20. Get involved with a non-profit related to what you do so that your tax deductible giving has an intangible indirect benefit to position you and/or your company.
