As you are no doubt aware, there has been a public outcry on social media calling for South Africans to join various planned protests taking place tomorrow, throughout the country.
Please note that the planned action does not constitute protected labour protest action or strike action and as such, employees who participate will not be protected under the provisions of any of the labour laws.
Employers are advised to use their discretion, based on operational requirements, as to whether they will allow employees to take pre-authorised annual leave, bearing in mind that this may set a precedent in terms of future such issues that you may not support.
It is also likely that employees may be delayed or even prevented from getting to work as a result of the protest action and you may need to take further steps to accommodate such incidents.
