6th grader's efforts to get sidewalk in Edgemont attracting attention on CBS TV

6th grader Maya Barmecha's lobbying effort to persuade the Greenburgh Town Board to install sidewalks on Fort Hill Road from Longview to Underhill Road is attracting attention throughout the metropolitan area.

Maya's effective lobbying skills should motivate other students who are not old enough to vote to get involved in the processes of government. If a sidewalk is approved at this location (and I hope it will be) not only will children and commuters be able to walk safer - but it will send a positive message: that government is a partnership with the community. As Maya pointed out the Edgemont school district does not bus children to school - making sidewalks even more important.6th
