Hey, Odooers! Great to have you here, again.???

Today, we are going to be discussing non-profits! It is an industry that I have had great pleasure in supporting and working in over the last decade, so I thought I would dedicate an article to it and how non-profit organisations are benefitting from Odoo when it comes to optimising all those processes and operations.

Everyone loves an inspiring story, and I am no different.

While we will be discussing others today, Odoo is no stranger to non-profit organisations. Amnesty International Italy, with a global movement of more than 7 million people in 150 countries, chose Odoo as their platform of choice.
"Fundrasing is not a matter of money, it's a matter of relationships. To Improve the relationship with our donors, we need faster processes, greater efficiency, and a Donor centered marketing approach. Donodoo meets all these needs, and the Odoo ecosystem gives us the right empowerment to evolve our business needs."

Laura Perrotta - Ex-Head of Fundraising at Amnesty International Italia

Here are some tales of the business, including how companies are supporting valued causes around the world. We'll cover some use cases across industries like Conversation, and Animal Advocacy - while diving into how they are using Odoo for the better. Some truly brilliant stuff, from potential obstacles to milestones.

If Odoo is your thing and you are interested in how it's used for non-profits, I would highly recommend taking a look at Wolfgang Hall 's talk at OXP 23:?

Odoo Enterprise For Non-Profits and NGOs.

As with any other industry or business, consolidating your tech stack and optimising your processes is no easy feat. From dealing with complex workflows to enhancing financial operations and upgrading departments like HR - the moral of the story is that you need a platform to do it. That's where Odoo has come in for these non-profit organisations.

This Edition's Ingredients

Let's take a look at this article's ripe ingredients to see what's coming up.

  • ?? The Importance of ERPs For Non-Profits
  • ???Empowering Conservation Efforts
  • ?? Centralising For Efficiency

Let's not wait any longer.?This is how non-profits have been benefitting from Odoo:

Before we get into that, however - yes, I know, I will be two seconds, I promise. I covered how Odoo Middle East partnered with Hotdesk to change the way businesses think about Workspaces and Digital Transformation. Combining Odoo's robust ERP solutions and Hotdesk's flexible workspace offerings allows small and medium businesses to grow with more ease through the co-working marketplace.

The Importance of ERPs For Non-Profits & NGOs Like Odoo

It goes without saying that platforms like ERPs are critical for non-profits and organisations with similar purposes. For companies promoting social, environmental, and political changes in today's society, time and cost are everything; across both organisation volunteers and perm staff working within. Working with tight budget constraints and using funds effectively is vital.

I know it all too well, after working within the industry.

Empowering Conversation Efforts

The Virunga Foundation, a UK-registered charity founded in 2005, look to Odoo for further streamlining across its operations and growth. The Virunga National Park (ViNP) is the oldest park in Africa, located in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Spanning over 7,800 km2, this park is home to some of the last mountain gorillas and is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. The charity was formed to support the protection of the surrounding fauna and flora of the park as well as to support local communities that live near the park boundaries.

Virunga National Park is Africa's most biologically diversified protected region. Virunga is regarded as the "park of fire and ice" because of its various ecosystems, which include Rwenzori peaks, savanna, and volcanic plains. Despite being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Virunga is frequently endangered by conflict, poaching, criminal activity, and unavoidable catastrophes.

Virunga Foundation faced significant challenges due to the digital divide.?

This gap in digital resources and literacy exacerbated global inequalities, impacting the foundation's ability to modernise its operations and manage data effectively.?Their existing ERP solutions, which included a mix of SAGE for procurement and SAP for management, resulted in a fragmented system that hindered efficient data management and donor compliance.?Odoo provided a robust framework that revolutionised their digital accessibility.

Virunga Foundation picked Odoo for its sturdy structure, hoping for a speedy and efficient deployment. The organisation enabled a seamless transition by prioritising activities and milestones early on.

The implementation focused on modernising ERP, data management, and ensuring donor compliance, so here is how Odoo made a difference:

Consolidating Thier Tools:

By consolidating various tools into Odoo’s integrated platform, the foundation achieved faster team communication, increased transparency, and streamlined business processes.

Enhanced Data Management:

Odoo’s cloud capabilities enabled the rapid development of data pipelines, improving data ingestion, processing, and visualisation. This transformation allowed IT professionals in the region to compete globally, as per previously not being able to do so.

Donor Compliance:

Detailed financial reporting aligned with project objectives and donor expectations, building trust and ensuring compliance.

Custom Solutions:

With the support of Engineering and Telecoms Consulting, Odoo was customised to fit the foundation’s specific needs, enhancing workflows without disrupting existing processes.

The switch to Odoo significantly improved operational efficiency and data management for the Virunga Foundation and the requirements disclosed.

"I would definitely recommend Odoo to others. Odoo offers a robust framework that simplifies operations and minimises the risk of ineligibility issues that often arise from procedural errors."

Robin Laime - Chief Information Officer

The integration of various apps under one platform streamlined activities across inventory, accounting, HR, helpdesk, recruitment, and more, ultimately supporting the Foundation’s conservation and development goals.

Centralising For Efficiency When It Comes to Animal Rights

For over 30 years, 30 Millions d'Amis Foundation has been a devoted advocate for animal rights in France.?This non-profit organisation, founded by Jean-Pierre Huttin in 1995, raises awareness and educates new generations to respect all forms of life, striving for a society that values animal welfare.

The Foundation's activities are not restricted to abandoned animals or French territory. Fighting abandonment, animal experimentation, and animal trafficking to raise awareness, and reform laws and animal policies.

As the Foundation grew, so did the complexity of its operations.?

Initially, using an ERP was not a priority, but the need to modernise and centralise their operational processes became evident.?

"In terms of time spent by the teams, if we had not implemented Odoo, it would take twice as long to process the files. Odoo allows our teams to save a lot of time since the data is centralized, and access to information is easy."

Renald Fere - Digital Strategy Partner

The organisation faced the challenge of managing administrative tasks, grants, budgets, and financing requests efficiently. The use of multiple software solutions led to resource spread and inefficiencies.?In 2014,?30 Millions d'Amis Foundation chose Odoo to centralise its operations, aiming for a holistic and data-centric approach.?

Administrative Efficiency:

Odoo streamlined administrative tasks, making it easier to handle grants, budgets, and financing requests. The centralised system improved document management and inter-document links, providing easy access to information.

I'll drop a video below, to show how powerful Odoo Documents really can be, but feel free to check out the rest of the Odoo content on their channel!

Time Savings:

By centralising data, Odoo significantly reduced the time required to process files.?

Improved Insights:

The integration allowed for better data cross-referencing, building robust statistical frameworks and providing valuable insights for the organisation.

The Outcome:

The implementation of Odoo resulted in a more efficient and effective operational structure.?

Teams experienced a reduction in processing time and an overall improvement in managing tasks and accessing information.?

The success with Odoo has prompted the organisation to plan further optimisations, including the incorporation of an electronic signature module and the creation of a town hall portal to track subsidies.?30 Millions d'Amis Foundation continues?further enhancing its processes with Odoo, ensuring that they can continue their mission of animal advocacy with a robust and efficient operational foundation.
